Today’s Question:
If you’re not enjoying a book, will you stop mid-way? Or do you push through to the end? What makes you decide to stop?
My Answer:
Unfortunately, yes and more so since accepting requests for reviews.  I find myself, when not enjoying a book, either putting off picking it up to continue reading or going into a reading slump because of it.  That happened on a few occasions so I revised my review policy that I will at least read up to 100 pages in hopes that my opinion of the book changes or the storyline grabs me.  If not, I have to put it aside and on to the next.

What about you?  Do you push through or stop midway?  Would love to hear your thoughts on this topic?

  1. Since I don't review books, I can read or not read a book without feeling that I need to finish it. Most of the time I try to read at least 50-75 pages before I decide to abandon the book. However there are other reasons I will stop reading a book mid-way through.

  2. I like your review policy – I might have to adopt something like that, too. I really don't like forcing myself to read something I'm not enjoying just so I can say a few words about it. Not a good thing for me or the author.

  3. I try to only pick review books that I think I will really enjoy. Of course, sometimes the book doesn't quite match up with it's description.

    Here's my BTT post.

  4. Hmm..I kind of pushing myself to read the book till the end, even if I found it nearly not worth reading. I end up give it 1 out of 5 rating. But most of the time, I pick books that i think I might enjoy. =)

  5. I try and give a book 50-100 pages. If I'm not enjoying it, I put it down. I have so many books I want to read, I don't want to waste time on books that I don't enjoy.

  6. I used to stop reading books now I just read then till the end. especially books I review.

  7. If I have pushed through a chapter or two and it's still not grabbing me, I quit. I used to hang in there but now I justify quitting because i tell myself I could be reading an exciting book instead of wasting my time!
