Slapdash Sunday Topic: BookCases and a question

SUNDAY
2 Slapdash Topics today:
Before I get to my Slapdash Topic, I would like to throw something out and see what you think.  I joined this meme months ago because I like the premise of it (please read the criteria that was posted from the site) and have enjoyed it ever since, reading about your thoughts, ideas, etc etc as to what the topic is.
However, for the past few months, when I go to link up at the site, there is no link nor meme.  I have tried contacting the blogger to see if she is still hosting this meme but have not had a response.  So, I did another hmmmmmmmm?????   What do you think about the premise of this meme?  Would you be interested in participating in something similar?  But have a McLnky so that you can hop and see what topic other bloggers have.
What are your thoughts on this meme?

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

Yesterday I started loading some, just 3 boxes lol, of my books into my new bookcase.  I knew how I wanted some of the shelves organized, but not sure of the other shelves.  I put my review tbr books in order on the 1st shelf along with my signed copies (which I am proud of).  The next shelf was for the books that I have won since blogging but haven’t read yet, along with my dark ages dictionary…..yes I know…there are dictionaries online but this may be an antique since its from my school days lol and a few personal favorites.  Then I got to the 3rd shelf and  had this moment:

Should I alphabetize by author, title?  Should I double stack my PBs?  Should I mix it all up and just put them any which way?  I know that if someone other than a book blogger is reading this they would probably say “what’s the difference?”  But I know you can understand how important our books are to us, so before I unload and reload, I was wondering…….How do you keep your books organized?  Are they by genre? Title? Author? Do you separate HC from PB?   Do you put them on the shelves by the size of the book or does that matter?  Maybe you don’t organize them at all.
Would love to know about your bookcases!!!!  Maybe even get some tips from each other!!  So let’s have a Slapdash Discussion!!!

  1. Well, you know how many books I have, and I think this is a great question! I organize my shelves alphabetically by author. I mix HC with PB, genre, etc, but if I didn't have them in order by author I would never be able to find a specific book when I wanted it–know what I mean?

  2. Cheryl, I only really organise by authors when I have a few by the same author. Mary Higgins Clark has a whole shelf.

I do like my HB seperate from the PB but that is mainly because of size.

    Have fun organising.

  3. Well I have about 500 books, 300 dvds, and maybe 200 cds. We organize EVERYTHING alphabetically lol. I do it all by author. and then if i have multiples by the same author its alphabetical by title. I also have a index card file with each and every book, cd and dvd (like a card catalogue) both in an excel file and in a actual plastic shoebox. For easy referencing. If i pull one out I take the card out of the file box and put it where the missing item should go. that way it goes back. Totally anal. I know but you can never be TOO organized.

  4. First of all thanks for stopping by, and leaving your kinds words. We truly appreciate them. Secondly, as far as bookcases I have two. One is in my room downstairs. It's my catch all/laundry room actually and I have a bookcase in there filled with nothing but Stephen King books. So, I don't have to sort by author. There's only one! LOL My other book case is every other book in the house. Now DVD & VHS is another thing. I got GAZILLIONS! LOL Love movies. Question: A book is just like a movie. Don't you hate it when it's a really good book, and it ends? You want it to go just that tad further or you think or I would've done this or that?

  5. Well, I don't really need to organize my bookshelves or Media shelves. I recently went through and purged the books that weren't my favorites. Paperbacks I send to the library so they can use them and everything else goes to the 1/2 price bookstore. I have hung onto my Dee Henderson books, cookbooks (about 1/2 of them), Brock & Bodie Thoene books and that's about it. The rest of my books are Usborne Books and any review books that I am reading & posting about. Now about media – I have like 8 DVD's and gosh probably less than that of Videos. I have more CD's and they are split up between here and work – maybe 40 of them in all. It's not to hard to keep track of them.

Thanks for visiting my blog and I'm following you back now. =0)
