Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
*Grab your current read
*Open to a random page
*Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
*BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

At two a.m., he slipped on a pair of leather gloves and pulled a balaclava over his face.  He retrieved a P40 semiautomatic pistol from his glove compartment and screwed on a silencer.  He set the gun on the seat beside him while he stuffed several pairs of flexicuffs and a roll of duct tape into his pocket.

Where do you get the books you read? Are you a faithful library patron? Or maybe a bookstore junkie? Do you exchange books with friends or family members?

Pre December 2009, I was all of the above.  If a book could be found, I would be in whatever type establishment it was.  However since 2010, I would say that approximately 90% of my books are sent to me for requested reviews.  The other 10% would be ebooks that I purchase that are on my personal tbr bucket list,  books that I win from giveaways entered or book swaps.
As for the 2nd part of today’s question, I apologize in advance if there are any authors reading this response, since I have been told that authors cringe when they hear about passing books on.  Yes, unless if it is signed, I do.  I just CAN’T throw a book away and after a while the house if overtaken by books so I have to pass them on, swap, and/or donate.  A few months ago, it was so bad that I got up the courage and purged 4 boxes of PBs that have been on my shelves for many, many years and donated them.  There are still  a lot and wonder if I will read them all in my lifetime, but I will die trying to lol.

  1. Oh, I'm with you on both scores!

    – I get books everywhere but the last few months many have been ARCs.

    – Your teaser was awesome!I love it!

  2. Even with the review copies I get, I'm a bookstore junkie! I pass some books on, but hold on to others.

  3. Oh dear, that's a tough call…to pass on or keep unread books. I guess space trumps all. Thanks for stopping by my blog today 🙂

  4. I think I will always be buying my books, because, I don't want to feel pressured to read a book, and I definitely don't want to have the pressure of writing a review. Part of the reason I don't check out very many library books is because of the pressure of having to read them in that three weeks of loan time. Oh, I know I could renew them, but, the pressure would still be there to get on with reading it.

The teaser is a bit scary, why does he need all that equipment? Maybe I need to read it to find out, but, I don't think I will, it doesn't sound like a cozy mystery.. hee, hee.

  5. Here is my teaser from "The Lodestone Book One: The Sea of Storms" by Mark Whiteway (Prologue):

It was early in the afternoon, when Kal first saw the flying rock.

Well, perhaps "flying" was a slight exaggeration; a subtle embellishment that he might have used later when trying to impress his younger brother, or his friends after third-day prayers. It was a least enough to break Kal out of his reverie. Hymarr's reaction was the last thing he had expected.

He has been rehearsing in his mind for days beforehand how he would ask her to accompany him to the Spring Gratitude Service. That morning, as he lay in his bedchamber, before even Ali-Gan, the yellow sun, has risen over the western horizon, he determined that today was going to be the day.

  6. Hmmmm Soprano anyone?????

The Godfather is gonna be asking for trouble… Hey you ever wonder why we never hear about the Godmother??? Femme fatale wants my Godmother NOW!

  7. To answer your other questions: I'm a used bookstore junkie. Since most of the books I really want to own are classics and vintage mysteries that's where I have to go. And there is nothing like a really great used bookstore (I'm still looking for a replacement for my all-time favorite–the owner retired). I do library books for books that are new or that I'm not sure I'd really want to keep ('cuz trust me, if I buy it, it's awful hard for me to let it go unless it's just absolutely terrible).
