Slapdash Sunday Topic: 2011 Challenges and An Announcement

Hosted by Kayla at The Eclectic Element

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

Today’s Topic:  2011 Challenges
I was so excited the other day when I saw, in my google reader, the perfect challenge for me.  I was lucky that I even caught it!!!!!  For a few days before that, I had been trying to catch up with all my blog/computer to-dos after our little road trip to see our son, that I didn’t even have the time to check out my google reader.  So, the low wattage bulb  (lol)  went on and thought that this would be a good topic for today!!  A day to share!!! ………

………Have I missed some?  Has someone posted that a certain challenge will be in place for 2011 but linky list is not up yet and I missed that too?  Are you in the same position as me, that you are preparing and/or trying to prepare for your 2011 Challenges?    Have you joined any challenges for 2011?  Which ones?  If you did, could you also provide the blog’s site link?  Do you know or have you seen any others that you would like to share?
So instead of a discussion, I thought we could have a Slapdash Share !!!!

So far, I signed up for the following:
Hosted by Yvonne from Socrates Book Reviews
September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2011

Off The Shelf!
October 30, 2010 to November 30, 2011
Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge

Hosted by The Book Vixen
Jan 1, 2011 to Dec 31, 2011

And I just found two more, one I have already signed up for and the other sign up will be posted for sign up on Dec. 1st:

Hosted by Jamie at Nitty Gritty
January 1, 2011 to Dec. 31, 2011
EBook Challenge
Sign up 12/01
OK…your turn……Are you participating in any of these?  Are there others you have signed up for or know about?
I have something else to share with all of you…….and I give my full permission for you to laugh at me……..
I have mentioned that things have been a bit chaotic here with some real life issues.  And that I have been trying to catch up with blog to-dos, from not taking my laptop out of the trunk when the hubby and I took our road trip to PA, like drafting and posting a lot of giveaways and Guest Author posts.  Plus the fact that I suffer from 2 conditions known as:
However my realization could not have come at a more perfect time, especially with the Follower-Gratitude Giveaway.  I thought my blogaversary was in December, WRONG, it was the beginning of November!!!  I can’t believe it has been one year since stumbling upon a book blog!!  I have made so many special friends and each and every one of you have taught me so much.  I never imagined that a year ago, when I created a “page” to keep track of the books I read, that it would turn out to be the blog that it is today.  And it’s because of you!!!!! I have loved every minute and look forward to another year.  A huge THANK YOU to each and every follower.  OK..time to blow out the candle, grab a coffee/tea, cut the cake and enjoy a slice.  BTW…I baked one with 0 calories lol.
Again, a BIG THANK YOU…I look forward to continuing old friendships and making new.  This blog is because of you, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you!!

  1. Happy blogiversary!!

I haven't started thinking about challenges for next year – that's one area I always procrastinate in.

  2. Thank you Kathy!!! I keep telling myself that I will not sign up for a lot of challenges in 2011, but I get excited when I see one that looks like fun.

  3. Cheryl: Happy Blogiversary! I'm so glad you're blogging and that we've found each other on the blogosphere.

I'm also participating in the Outdo Yourself & Off the Shelf challenges as well as one that you don't have listed above:

The Gothic Reading Challenge found at

Here are a few more that I've found and I'm still contemplating (I don't want to over-commit myself and these things are so hard to resist…). I'm more likely to go for the first two.

    The Century Challenge:

    The Hometown Challenge:

    The Fifty States Challenge:

    Men in Uniform Challenge:

  4. Marce: Thank you!! Wish you had reminded me lol…it just dawned on me to check. Going to your place now to check out your challenge.

  5. I will be announcing the details to my JUST FOR FUN READING CHALLENGE 2011 on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. Just working out one last detail. I hope you will join that one too!!

  6. Bev: Thank you!! I so enjoy your postings and being amazed at how many classics you read. I am like you too..I tell myself not to enter as many as I did this year, but it is just so hard to resist. Going to check out the ones you spoke about. Thanks for the list….I think lol.

Lori: You have piqued my curiousity regarding your challenge. Will definitely be on the look out for the announcement.

  7. If you are interested, I am hosting a Back To the Classics Challenge 2011 on my site:

The post w/info and sign ups has now moved down the page, but I added a nifty button w/clickable link to get you there fast!

I am also participating the the 50 States Challenge next year, which someone else listed in an earlier comment.

  8. Sarah: I have promised myself that once, if ever, I get caught up with reviews, I am going to leave my comfort zone and read a classic. I think that the reason I don't enjoy that genre is because of it being mandatory in school many, many years ago and back then did not appreciate them. However, GL and I will be a cheerleader for your challange. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Nise: Thank you. Only problem is that those moments are turning into minutes and hours lol.

Jennifer: Thank you for stopping by and sharing. Going to go check that one out.

  9. I think the 'Just For Fun Reading Challenge' sounds like one I would like, I will have to check it out this week. I am on the downhill side of my 'Fall Into Reading Challenge" now, it will be over December 21, 2010, and I think I need to read 4 more books I listed until then.

Now I have to go check out 'tea with marce's' challenge.

  10. Forgot to mention that I am contemplating a Challenge of my own…I have a few details to iron out. It's going to revolve around vintage mysteries. We'll see if I can get it up and running in time for the New Year.

  11. The challenges you signed up for each look do-able & fun! Great choices!!
Congrats – only a year? You seem like you've been doing it forever!

  12. There are so many good challenges out there. I can't resist either. I'll probably join a ton. Here's what I have so far and a few I will probably join a little later:

The SteamPunk Challenge at The Bookeeper

2011 Romantic Suspense Reading Challenge at Nitty Gritty

2011 Paranormal Romance Challenge at Bitten by Paranmormal Romance

50 States Challenge hosted by Book Obsession
