Saturday Memes

SATURDAY
Today I will be participating in a new Saturday meme that I found, similar to the one that I participated in on Sundays, however, starting tomorrow, I will be hosting a weekly event that I am really excited about.  I hope you stop by.  And if you would like to be part of it, please contact me!!

Hosted by Danielle at There’s A Book

From her blog:
We all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.

This week’s question:  What is your favorite TV show?
I have said many times that I am not a TV person per se.  I do, however, have the TV on from the time I get up until going to bed tuned in to a cable news station.  Yes…I admit….I am a cable news junkie.  I have been ever since 9/11.  I don’t actually watch it but have the volume low and will watch only if there is breaking news.
Recently, I put in a restless night, so I got up, put the TV on and was flipping through the channels and came across a show and have been watching it every week since.
I was amazed and in awe that people actually live like this but then on the other hand, was glad to see that this type of mental illness was being brought to the forefront so that those who suffer from this disease or for those that know someone that does have this, that there is help for them.
And now for the new meme:

From Yvonne’s site:
I’ve wanted to start a meme like this for a long time. It’s “Anything Goes on Saturday”. It’s a chance to choose any topic you want and talk about it on Saturday – it can be about a book, TV show, movie, a recipe or just an update on your week. Whatever you choose.

If you’d like to join in, take the button above and blog about it. Use the linky below to post your direct link to your post. Then, go and visit other blogs and see what’s on everyone’s minds this week. Enjoy!
Today’s Topic:  GR, LT, SHELFARI?
I am guessing that most of us catalogue our books on GR, LT, and/or Shelfari. And I am also guessing that we also post our reviews on all these sites too. Around December, I stopped posting to Shelfari, as it seemed that it was just more work, took more time, more duplication and I didn’t see it mentioned as much as the other 2.

So today’s questions are: Which sites do you use? Do you think it is necessary to use all 3? Do you just use the sites to catalogue your books or do you also post your reviews there?

  1. I left Shelfari for about the same reasons you did, Cheryl but I love GoodReads. They have a couple of fantastic and active cozy and mystery groups that I really enjoy. I do catalogue a few books at LT but why bother when they charge you if you go over 200 books – GR doesn't charge anything and I have about 1800 books on my shelves.

  2. I watched part of an episode of Hoarders after I read the book Dirty Secret and I couldn't take it. I don't watch any show on a regular basis, but I do love college football and basketball.

  3. I've heard about the Hoarders show, and I'm very curious…I visited people like that when I was a social worker. Sometimes the hoarding gets so out of hand that it's a danger (which was why I was called in).

I'll have to check that show out.

On your other meme, which sounds good, BTW, I would have to say that I belong to all three sites, but I only post reviews on Goodreads. I go to LT to look for Early Reviewers books; and I only visit Shelfari occasionally, just to see who is there. I find the last two sites more difficult to navigate.

Hope you'll check out my A Bit of Me (Me) here:

  4. Hi Cheryl,

I only used Goodreads and find that is time consuming enough. I have joined a couple of groups there but cannot keep up with the postings.
I post some of my reviews on there, ReaditSwapit forum and ivillage Book Club.

    Enjoy ur weekend

  5. My favorite shows: Grey's Anatomy & Big Love. Hoarders is really good too!

    And I only use Goodreads…..

  6. I have a goodread account, but after the first few times of visiting it, I found it a waste of time. I have my blog to keep track of what I read, and review. That is so much easier for me.

I watched the Hoarder show a time or two, and really don't know how they can live that way.

My favorite TV show right now is Castle, it comes on most Monday nights at 9:00 PM CST.

  7. Great topic – I use three – Shelfari, Goodreads and Library Thing. LT I pretty much stopped using though for the same reason you stopped Shelfari. Also, when you got to a certain # of books you had to pay. The other two don't charge you regardless of how many books you put in.

Mainly I use them to catalogue my books, but occasionally I do post reviews on them. Mainly because it's god for the author or publisher who requested the review. If I'm writing a review on my own, I usually only post them on my blog.

Thanks for participating in my new meme!

  8. I use to watch TV a lot, but lately I'm so into blogging I just don't have the time. I still watch old favorites from time to time like Charmed or House M.D., but I still watch my Fox News in the morning too, and I always look st see what's on Turner Classic Movies in the morning because I at least listen to it. Also wanted to let you know that I nominated you for The Stylish blogger Award. You can see the rules and get the button at my blog (like you don't know where's that at) LOL! HUGS!

  9. I love reading these because we can all be so different…I never turn on the cable news channels! I rarely turn on the local news either, I find it all too depressing and difficult to see on a regular basis. I do watch The Daily Show and Colbert Report, so I get some news from them.

As for my reading cataloging, I actually use all three. I don't find Shelfari to be as useful review wise as GR and LT, but I love the shelf widget so I update for that if nothing else 🙂

  10. Thank you all for stopping by. Having one year under my belt, as the saying goes, I realized how much time I was wasting by posting reviews and cataloguing books in so many different places, that I have made some changes for 2011. Even with my reading habits and accepting requests. However, I see that I still have a lot to learn. I did not know about LT charging for 200+ books. Will have to change my thought process for that site too. Thank you all for the info. It is appreciated. My boys were always annoyed with me because I ask a lot of questions, but I try to explain to them, it is a form of educating one's self. And you all just taught me something I didn't know and I thank you for that.

  11. I was a news junkie, too but we haven't had cable in years and years. I was so excited when we got a Bluray player and I saw that I could watch the CBS Evening News in it. My kids thought I was nuts!

Hoarders is one of the most fascinating shows ever.

  12. Oh! Hoarders is a really really good show. It's one of those I like to watch on weekends when they play marathons and I can get in a few episodes. Pretty much anything on TLC, Bravo or HGTV is like that for me. All really good shows, just ones I usually only watch by myself. ;o)

As for the other…I'd definitely say Goodreads. I used the others and I just can't find the time. Though I still use my Library Thing account from time to time.
