Booking Through Thursday

Dear Friends:  I have always tried to make my blog a fun place to be, for me it has been my sanity and something I look forward to everyday no matter how much pain I am in or what curve balls real life is throwing at me.  And I hope it is also a fun place to come to visit. But there are times that real life can be so hard that, not so good news, need to be told.
I am not sure if you have been following the news about the Texas wild fires and how people have had to evacuate their homes.  I have been following one of our blogging buddies status on FB and just read some horrible news that has me feeling helpless, useless and wanting to do something but what?, being so far from her.  I just read that Jackie from Housewife Blues and Chihuahua Stories, has lost everything.  This is what she posted on FB:  “It is all gone, house, RV, buildings all rubble and ash.”.  Please keep her in your prayers.
And on another note.  Over the next few weeks, I will probably not be participating in daily memes, visiting blogs, answering emails.  However,  I will be posting Guest Author showcases and giveaways that I have already committed to.  Monday, the day after I attended the beautiful wedding, my Mom fell and I spent the day/night in the ER.  No fractures, however, due to results of other tests, the doctor told me to put Hospice in place.  I will be spending as much time as I can with her and away from blogging.  Shining Star will be on hiatus a bit longer, I apologize, but I hope you understand.

Today’s question:

What are you reading now?
Would you recommend it?

And what’s next?

My response:
Reading:  Moonlight Rises by Vincent Zandri
Would you recommend it?  Most definitely
Next?  Claim Of Innocence by Laura Caldwell or The Most Dangerous Things by Laura Lippman

  1. I am sorry to hear about the FB friends and your mother. I saw in the news how terrible the fires in Texas and California are.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about your mom and your friend. I will keep both families in my prayers.

  3. My thoughts and prayers are with your FB friend and all the other families affected by the fires. And wishing your mom a speedy recovery!

  4. OMG Cheryl, please be careful and don't injure yourself also. Hope your mom will be ok.

My heard goes out to the blogger who has lost every thing, how sad, very very sad.

More VincentZ, you are hooked 🙂

  5. Oh my gosh, how sad for Jackie. How do you begin to recover from something like that.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom – we went through that with my dad last year and it's not an easy place to be. I'm sending thoughts and prayers your way.

  6. Hugs to you and your mom, Cheryl! I'll be remembering you both.

And my heart goes out to Jackie. I just can't imagine.

  7. Cheryl thank you for the heartfelt prayers and for all the love, it is going to be a long hard road and we have never traveled one quite so rough in all our years. However my husband is a bedrock in the insanity of what we are facing now, he has taken a "no-prisoners" attitude and we will be fine. No injuries, no pets lost and things that we are crying over are photos, family mementos from our entire life and all the little items that jog memories that bring a smile that make you happy, those are what make us sad/angry/heartbroken and generally miserable. We have quite a few photos on my computer that we can reproduce, wish though we had the ones we cannot as they were all family and lost pets and our horses from my childhood and they were all on negatives and all that is gone.

    {The RV and home was referring to though was my neighbors, he is now homeless just like we are!}

Hugs to you lady, take care and just like you for a different reason my blog is going to have stuff go on hiatus, here and there at least. I have things scheduled that was already set up last month so only a few days here and there will be without posts until I hit October and then it will probably be book reviews from books that I already read and have not posted on blog yet.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts and we are going to make it, there is no other choice but to go forward.

  8. How awful for Jackie and her family, it's very upsetting. I will keeo her in my thought and prayers.
If you see this Jackie, I'm glad you and your family are healthy and safe but losing your home must be a shock. Good luck to you, I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and wish the best for you and your family…your neighbots, too.

C, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom though glad she didn't break any bones. of course you want to spend as much time as possible with her. You will be missed here but the light is always on. Take care of what you need too…you are in my thoughts and prayers, mom, too.

  9. Jackie,
I am so glad that none of your family, and pets were hurt. So sorry that you lost so many things to remind you of family memories. I hope that you have may have aunts, uncles, counsins and friends who can share their photos of your family with you so that you may recover some.

Of course most of it can never be replaces but you still have your friends and just let us know if you need anything. We live in Texas too but are very fortunate to live north of all the fires.

    Love,
    Carol

  10. Cheryl,
Sending my thoughts and prayers to you and your mother. I am very glad she had no fractures, that would have made things even worse. Sending you so many (((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))).
It is very difficult stuff for you to do and I hope you have some help. Take your time with what you need to do and try to get some rest and all of that is very stressful, I know.

    Love,
    Carol

  11. Cheryl,
