GIVEAWAY ENTRY PAGE “CALICO JOE” by John Grisham ENDED

MARCH 9th to MARCH 23rd, 2012

CALICO JOE
by JOHN GRISHAM

SYNOPSIS (from publisher):
Publication Date:  04/10/12

A surprising and moving novel of fathers and sons, forgiveness and redemption, set in the world of Major League Baseball…

Whatever happened to Calico Joe?

It began quietly enough with a pulled hamstring. The first baseman for the Cubs AAA affiliate in Wichita went down as he rounded third and headed for home. The next day, Jim Hickman, the first baseman for the Cubs, injured his back. The team suddenly needed someone to play first, so they reached down to their AA club in Midland, Texas, and called up a twenty-one-year-old named Joe Castle. He was the hottest player in AA and creating a buzz.

In the summer of 1973 Joe Castle was the boy wonder of baseball, the greatest rookie anyone had ever seen. The kid from Calico Rock, Arkansas dazzled Cub fans as he hit home run after home run, politely tipping his hat to the crowd as he shattered all rookie records.

Calico Joe quickly became the idol of every baseball fan in America, including Paul Tracey, the young son of a hard-partying and hard-throwing Mets pitcher. On the day that Warren Tracey finally faced Calico Joe, Paul was in the stands, rooting for his idol but also for his Dad. Then Warren threw a fastball that would change their lives forever…

In John Grisham’s new novel the baseball is thrilling, but it’s what happens off the field that makes CALICO JOE a classic

  1. Yes I am a die hard baseball fan and my favorite baseball team is the Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim!

  2. I am not a “die hard” baseball fan but the Cubs have always been my favorite team. 🙂 Thank you.

  3. I do not consider myself a Baseball fan, but my favorite team is the Yankees 1976-1980

  4. I am a fan but not a die-hard fan, I am a San Diego Padres fan.

  5. Die Hard Baseball Fan? Baseball that’s the game with the stick and the ball and the guys where these strange looking mittens…right?
Favorite Team – Kansas City Royals…actually they were my grandpa’s favorite team…I remember him listening to the games on the radio when I was a wee one.

  6. I’m a die-hard fan of the (World Champion) St. Louis Cardinals! Also a huge fan of John Grisham.

  7. I’m not a die-hard baseball fan or sports fan of any kind for that matter. But I love to read about sports figures, real or fictional, because I think they have interesting stories. My favorite team is the Atlanta Braves because they’re right in my backyard.

  8. No, I’m not a die-hard baseball fan, although baseball is one of few sports I actually enjoy watching. My favorite baseball team would have to be the Atl. Braves!

  9. I enjoy baseball, but I probably wouldn’t consider myself a die-hard fan. My favorite team is the Twins. Thanks for the giveaway.

  10. I don’t follow the game as close as I used to, but I am still a fan. I follow the Texas Rangers.

  11. I love watching baseball live. My favorite team is the Durham Bulls. They are a local minor league team about an hour away. I am looking forward to this Grisham book. I have every book that he has written.

  12. Yes, I do consider myself a die hard baseball fan – since I named my son after two famous baseball players (Nolan Ryan and Ryne Sanberg).
I would say my favorite baseball team would be the ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS. But that is NCAA college teams, if you are referring to MLB it would have to be St. Louis Cardinals.

  13. No, I am not a die hard baseball fan. I am, however, I huge John Grisham fan! My favorite team is the Oakland Athletics.

  14. I am a die hard Cardinal fan since 1945, when I was a boy. That year, my dad and I went to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs against the Tigers, which was the last year the Cubs were in the Series. They of course lost.
The next year the Cards won the Series by beating the Red Sox. I still remember Enos Slaughter running to home from first to score the winning run while Johny Pesky held the ball at short.
I also am a huge John Grisham fan. I have read every book he has written I think. At least everyone I have come to know about.
Baseball….what a game! I read many books about ‘America’s game’.I thrill once again to the memories of the many years since I played it as a kid, and from those who were my heroes on the diamond.
Every spring, including this one, I get excited when the season opens. and live the ‘ups and downs’ of my teams and many players. The Cardinals run of 2011 was an epoch, and one for the ages. I also remember seeing Larry Doby (the first Black American in the AL) at his first bat. Robinson, Dimaggio, Musial, Williams…the list goes on and on. What great memories! Old Sportsman’s Park in St.L, Ebbets Field, Yankee Stadium, the Polo Grounds. The Dodgers in the Colliseum in LA. Say-Hey Willie Mays. It goes on and on. Baseball….what a game. Chock full of great memories for an old man.
    Thanks
    Bill Morenz

  15. I love baseball. Die hard METS fan. Fell in love with the Mets and Gary Carter back in 84.

  16. Nope, I am not a die hard BBall fan. I do like Baseball though.

I grew up liking the Marlins but I am loyal to the Yankees now. The Marlins fell apart when Wayne Huzeinga sold the team in the 90s 🙁
