GIVEAWAY ENTRY PAGE “SUMMERLAND” by Elin Hilderbrand ENDED

JUNE 30th to JUNE 27th, 2012

SUMMERLAND
by ELIN HILDERBRAND

SYNOPSIS:
A warm June evening, a local tradition: the students of Nantucket High have gathered for a bonfire on the beach. But what begins as a graduation night celebration ends in tragedy after a horrible car crash leaves the driver of the car, Penny Alistair, dead, and her twin brother in a coma. The other passengers, Penny’s boyfriend Jake and her friend Demeter, are physically unhurt – but the emotional damage is overwhelming, and questions linger about what happened before Penny took the wheel.

As summer unfolds, startling truths are revealed about the survivors and their parents – secrets kept, promises broken, hearts betrayed. Elin Hilderbrand explores the power of community, family, and honesty, and proves that even from the ashes of sorrow, new love can still take flight.

  1. I have been in an accident 20 yrs ago that I still feels the effects from. I have a cousin who was hit by a car when she was 10 yrs old and now still hs residual effects.

  2. Yes, I have known several people who have been killed in tragic, senseless car accidents, and recently a good friend of mine died when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

  3. I am very fortunate that I don’t have anyone close to me in my life who has been in a terrible accident. When I was in college a boy in my class, Matt, was in a terrible accident the summer before our freshman year of college and ended up in a wheelchair. I know it was a tough adjustment for Matt, of course, simply because he went from being able to walk, run and move about as he wanted too to being pretty imobile. Additionally, our college was built on a hill, a very steep hill so the entire campus was on 4 or 5 different levels. I was used to being on crutches and in a wheelchair because I had been using both my entire life and I wanted to go to this school but I think Matt had some difficulties with the campus which wasn’t very handicapped accessible.
I feel badly when I think about Matt because I was so used to being disabled that I don’t think I was nearly as understanding, sympathetic or empathetic as I could have been. I hope he’s having a good life today.

  4. Yes a friend in high school was in a bad accident and she was in hospital for a very long time and lucky to be alive.

  5. I was in a car accident in 1973 that caused all of the back problems I have had since. Everyone was surprised that I survived the crash. Just a collapsed lung and 8 fractured ribs and shredded back muscles.

  6. Thankfully I haven’t been in a critical accident yet. However, a few years back, my aunt had a damaged liver due to bad food in China and need a liver transplant. For the first time I witnessed how scary having someone close to me, being so close to death felt like.

  7. We’ve been vortunate in that no one in my family or any of my friends have ever been affected by an accident. Hope it stays that way. Thanks.

  8. I have been very fortunate and I don’t know anyone who has been in a terrible accident and I also haven’t been in one.

  9. My best friend and her sister were in a serious accident but survived. She had to have several operations.

  10. A friend of mines son was in a bad car accident, he had broken bones and thankfully recovered.

  11. I love, love love Elin Hilderbrand. Hopefully the rafflecopter form and I will not be enemies again.

  12. Jeez, last time it wouldn’t let me leave a comment so I commented first. Now it wants an answer in the comment. OY!! Yes, I do know someone who was horribly injured in an accident.

  13. I was in what appeared to be a simple accident 5 years ago, but it turned out to be a life-changing event that cost me my career and left me permanently disabled.

  14. I can’t think of anyone I know that’s been affected by a terrible accident. The closest thing to an “accident” is when my dad was recently in the hospital for a couple of weeks when a friend found him nearly catatonic in his apartment, due to a bad mix of pills. He’s okay now, back home and not on ANY meds, thank goodness.

  15. yes/no. My cousin was. She just finished her senior year of high school and was driving down the road, when a semi in the next lane started pushing his way into her lane. She tried to stay in her lane because next to her was a bike rider–but the semi pushed further into her lane. She was pushed off the road or would have been hit by the semi driver…the boy riding his bike was killed. He was about to start his senior in our same high school. It was awful. I know she received so much harrasement from other students…she was in therapy for years over it, and then had to go back after she had her first child because of the guilt. So sad.

  16. Yes. Less than two weeks ago my stepdad was enjoying a ride on his motorcycle when a SUV ran a stop sign and hit him. He suffered numerous orthopedic injuries and lost his leg. Thankfully, he will be coming home tomorrow from the hospital and he is maintaining a positive attitude

  17. While we have all been touch by tragedy, so far no one I know has been in any terrible accidents.

  18. My nephew was hit by an 18 wheeler 15 years ago. He survived, but he has never been the same.

  19. I lost a friend four years ago due to a car accident. A drunk driver slammed into her truck and she was found dead at the scene. Her fiance was a coma for nearly a month and missed her funeral. He suffered major head and neck injuries, but has since recovered physically.

  20. i was in a car accident on new years day i have two bulging discs and havent been to work since 🙁

  21. yes, my nephew was helping someone change their tire along the side of the highway and a drunk( and on meth struck) him down and killed him.

  22. Thankfully no but I work in the medical field with lots of patients who have and see what they go rgrough.

  23. I’ve had family and friends with illness or other health issues, but I’ve been lucky enough to not have any get in a terrible accident.
