Aloha Friday

From An Island Life:
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

Have you heard about the big storm that is barreling toward the East Coast?  Here in RI, we have been hearing about it for days.  It’s been the BIG news!!  Our local news stations have been showing the weather projections, lists of to what to do, what to buy, etc. This happens for every storm no matter how big it is, it seems like the local news makes it bigger than it is, and then it’s nothing. Which brings me to today’s, and I apologize, 2 questions instead of 1.

Question:
1. Do, and/or would, you, prepare and stock
up before a a storm warning?
2. Does your local news stations hype up storms?

P.S. If you are affected by the storm, stay safe.

  1. The local news here sometimes hypes up storms – but usually when they do, it fizzles. So I’ve noticed they’re not big hypers anymore. 😉 I don’t specifically stock up before a big storm – mostly because I stock up by doing my grocery shopping twice a month…so I’m usually good. Though I might have the hubby stop and get an extra loaf of bread and milk just to make sure we don’t run out of those things, since the stores usually end up getting wiped out on stock from people who do specifically stock up before a big storm. 🙂

We’re still waiting to find out if we’ll end up with a deluge of rain or snow for this storm – Princess Nagger is hoping for some snow days, but I don’t think she realizes that if it’s a big snow storm she might not get to go trick-or-treating on Halloween depending on when the actual storm hits. :/

  2. Yes, I would totally prepare and stockpile if a pending storm was on the way. Getting an emergency supply kit together is something on my to-do list. And, regarding the local news hyping the storms…we have a local weatherman who is so dramatic and loves to post on facebook and his blog all about upcoming weather scenarios. He’s quite funny and theatrical (although I don’t think he means to be).

  3. I don’t watch TV, but the radio station I listen to mentioned it about a billion times (we are in VA) this morning. We prepare to the extent it is reasonable, yes.

  4. I think I would make a plan of what I wanted to grab if I had to evacuate. We did this a few years ago when our town was on fire from both sides! Our local news mostly talks about dumb things and ignores important things!

  5. I live on the East coast too and have been hearing about the storms heading our way. I’ve never stocked up for a storm before and I won’t for this one either. We have 7 cord of firewood so whatever happens, at least we will be warm 🙂

    Have a great weekend!

  6. I like to have enough batteries and flashlights and snack food. i don’t do much else. That’s sad I now but I don’t have the $$

And yes I try not to watch the tv. They hype it up and then it’s not all that bad.
