GIVEAWAY ENTRY PAGE “BREAKING THE CODE” by Karen Fisher-Alaniz ENDED

NOVEMBER 11th to NOVEMBER 25th, 2012

BREAKING THE CODE
by KAREN FISHER-ALANIZ

SYNOPSIS:
-Our parents are our most unexplored mystery. Whether close or distant to us, we see them as “parent,” rarely knowing or thinking about the person that they are outside that role. So few of us get to discover that person inside, even if it may be just a question away.
-Like many, Karen grew up with a father who was always there and yet always absent. As a little girl and then an adult, she talked to him, but they never really had a conversation. He’d told her stories of his childhood and of his time in the Navy, but she’d barely listened.
-But on his 81st birthday, without explanation, her father placed two weathered notebooks on her lap, with more than 400 pages of letters he’d written to his parents during World War II. The more she read, the more she discovered about the man she never knew and the secret role he played in the war. Thus began an unintended journey – one taken by a father and daughter who thought they knew each other, a journey of healing and discovery that started with a leap of faith.

  1. My father was a cub pilot for reconnaisannce in the Army Aircore. He did some trainging in Georgia and the rest in Ireland. He was in England, Ireland,France, Swizerland, and Germany during service. He earned lots of metals but never talked about them. He talked about the people he met like the Russian who was a POW.

    1. So sad. As a parent, I can’t even imagine what that would be like to live your life without knowing, really knowing…what happened to your son. I bet his mother has/had a story to tell. ~Karen

    1. Your father is a hero. The Korean war vets are the forgotten. There just isn’t much recognition out there. I hope to write about a Korean vet some day! Waiting for the perfect story. ~Karen

  2. My father Terry was in the Navy. He never really talked about the war and things he did & saw. He is since gone & had a military funeral.

  3. It is my understanding that my grandfather on my father’s side died in WWII. What an interesting book. To be given writings so incredible would be a treat. I am very intrigued about how this plays out. Thank you for sharing with us.

    1. You’re welcome. It’s a pleasure to be here. Did you know you can send for your grandfather’s records through the National Archives? Actually, if your grandfather’s children (your mother/father, aunt/uncle) are living, they would be the one to do it. I bet it will be fascinating. ~Karen

  4. OK…so I definitely have egg on my face. This is so embarrassing! After my book was featured, I poked around and couldn’t find a place to comment. I thought that was strange to have a blog where nobody could comment. Then I stopped back by today, and here are all these comments – that I never responded to! I’m so sorry for the delayed responses.

Thank you all for the kind and thoughtful comments! ~Karen

    1. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to host both you as guest author and a giveaway of your book. I have Breaking The Code in my TBR pile and can’t wait to read it. Since my Dad also fought in WWII, it will be an amazing and emotional read.

And thank you so much for stopping by to take the time responding to all the comments. Unfortunately, I am unable to post the winner tonight since Rafflecopter is having some glitches and I can’t access the winners. Hoping they will fix it soon.
