GIVEAWAY ENTRY “LEAVING THE HALL LIGHT ON” by Madeline Sharples ENDED

DECEMBER 3rd to DECEMBER 17th, 2012

LEAVING THE HALL LIGHT ON
by MADELINE SHARPLES

SYNOPSIS:
Leaving the Hall Light On is about living after loss: first and foremost how author Madeline Sharples chose to live and go on with life and take care of herself as a woman, wife, mother, writer. It is about the steps Sharples took in living with the loss of her son, including making use of diversions to help ease her grief and the milestones she met toward living a full life without him. She says, “to let ourselves grieve is to feel the depth of our love. For those whose children have died, that may take the rest of our lives, but we will discover the gifts of our loss in the process.”

  1. Yes, I know people dealing with bipolar disorder. Rephrase – I know several people that I know are dealing with bipolar, and am certain that I know others who either choose not to discuss with me or don’t even realize it themselves.

(Always prefer hardcopy, but if that’s not available then .pdf is the most transportable format.)

  2. Thanks for your comment, Andrew. Yes, I’m sure you are not alone re your experience of bipolar disorder. There is still stigma associated with mental illness; thus the reason people don’t talk about it or even know enough to seek help.

  3. I prefer hard copy over anything else, but if I have to read an e copy then I use mobi formats.

I do know someone dealing with bipolar disorder. It’s very difficult to be around this person.

  4. I prefer a hard copy of the book.

My step sister is bi-polar. Her brother was bi-polar, too. He committed suicide many years ago when he stopped his medication. That was back in the day when there was only Lithium to treat it. Now, fortunately, there are more medications to treat and less of a stigma (I think) in the diagnosis. More people are willing to seek treatment these days.

My sister still has problems dealing with the loss of her brother almost 33 years later.

  5. Dear LInda and Melissa, Thanks for sharing your experiences with mental illness. I am always struck with how many people I meet who have been affected by it. Yes, medication is better now than it was in the early 90s when my son was first diagnosed.

  6. I prefer print 🙂 And my daughter suffers from Depressive Disorder NOS and they are trying to rule out Bipolar, but not sure yet.
