I love a book where within the first 2-3 pages, you know that this going to be a wild ride. And this book was. The suspense tension was as fast as watching an Indy 500 car race with no pit stops and hairpin turns. Characters, at times, that were dark and secretive that the reader will be going back and forth as who to believe had a stake in the vast amount of money that Nina leaves behind.

Tabitha claims her innocence but is now questioning if she really knew Connor. Can she truly believe him that he didn’t kill his wife? Or will they have a happily ever after that they both wanted?

A white knuckle read that will have your heart pounding!!! I highly recommend this book for those that enjoy psychological thrillers!!!

For the last 15+ months, I have been reading nothing but psychological thrillers and was in need of a bit of a change and then I saw that this book was available for review. So I requested a copy from St. Martin’s Press via Netgalley for the following reasons. Did I make a good choice?

1. It’s been some time since I read a book by Ms. Delinsky, which I need to reevaluate and ask myself why I haven’t and I need to rectify that.
2. The description/synopsis
3. The cover
4. Family relationships
5. Both mystery and romance
6. And that the setting is in my home state

Mallory Aldiss has not been home in 20 years to see her father and younger sister, Anne, ever since the accident that tore 2 families apart and that became fodder for gossip to this day. Until Mallory receives a phone call from their neighbor, who was also the man that she loved and had left behind because of the incident, stating that her father had threatened him with a gun, was failing in health and the house needed repair. Her older sister, Margo, took the side of their mother and swore she would also never return, but decides it’s time to go back.

Mallory’s daughter, thirteen-year-old daughter Joy, pleads with her to make the trip from NY to RI to visit with her grandfather and aunt since she is craving to have a family. Mallory agrees to go for a week but what happens in that week reignites questions, disagreements with her sisters as each one has their own perspective of their childhood and what fractured their relationships, her feelings towards the guy she left behind and one mystery that she needs to know who she really is.

I was pulled into the story from page one, which was both poignant and captivating. The characters were believable to the point that I felt that I personally knew them. The family dynamics were both emotional and raw at times. The setting gorgeous, even though it was all familiar to me, I’m sure any reader will be able to picture it in their mind. The writing fluid. Just enough mystery and romance all rolled up in one.

I asked, did I make a good choice, my answer is ABSOLUTELY!! I loved this book!!!!

After reading An Anonymous Girl and The Wife Between Us, I knew I had to get my hands on this novel.

I could not put this book down. The pages turning as fast as I could read. The story pulled me in and didn’t let go until the unbelievable ending. My head was spinning throughout the story trying to figure out how it would end and it was shocking!!!! Totally engrossing and chilling! What a read!!!!!

Not only do I recommend this book but their previous books too!!!!

After reading Saving Meghan, I was anxiously waiting to see if I could snag a copy of The New Husband and lo and behold, I did!!!!!!

Two years ago, Glen Garrity, Nina’s husband and father to Connor and Maggie, went missing after someone found his boat with their dog Daisy and a massive amount of blood on board. The night that police tell her of their grim discovery and returning Daisy, Nina gets a text and pictures, from an unknown source, showing Glen kissing some waitress named Teresa. She then realizes that Glen has drained their savings. Was this all connected? Did he leave on his own to start a new life? Or was it something more sinister since Glen’s body was never recovered?

It’s been 2 years and Nina has decided to move on and in with Simon Fitch, a history teacher at Maggie’s middle school. Connor doesn’t mind since he feels his dad is dead but Maggie is furious since she doesn’t trust him. Is she right not to?

Nina can’t believe how lucky she is since Simon is close to perfect. But Maggie doesn’t think so and creates a lot of drama in this new family because she doesn’t believe her dad is dead.

The narrative alternates between Nina, Maggie, and someone else (sorry!!! no spoilers from this lady).

From the first chapter, the suspense mounts and the pages are turning. About 50% into the book, something happens that was like a sucker punch, which I was like, WAIT!!!! WHAT??? and had to read it three times to make sure that I understood what just happened. After that, I was reading at warp speed to find out the hows, whys, and who else will be destroyed.

Another fast-paced chilling read!!! A book that will have you so engrossed, you won’t know what’s going on around you!!!!!

There is one big negative, however. Since this book will not be released until April 2020, I will have a very long wait for his next book!!!!

This is the first book that I have read by this author but he is now on my radar.

This story touched me to my core as I have been involved in similar instances and the author nailed it!!!!

I mention similar events. When my sister was born with Cerebral Palsy, 9 1/2 years prior to my birth, my parents were told to institutionalize her as she would not live past 16, have severe disabilities and to just forget about her. As told to me by several relatives, my father cold-cocked the doctor and took my sister home. She will be 73 this year living in assisted living for the past 8 years, with a more active social life than me.

While in High School, we went to a similar school for my psychology course. It was horrific with the same problems as Willowridge in the story. To this day, I can remember Joey, the 5 year old boy with big brown eyes that clung to me. I often wonder what happened to him and thankfully, that “school” also closed.

The narrative, characters, and emotions are raw, straight from the heart and soul. The reader will feel every emotion that Ginny was feeling, love, fear, guilt, betrayal and self doubt!!

KEEPING LUCY will tug at your heartstrings. And as a mother, understand the love a mother has for her child. A compelling and profound read that I highly recommend!

I read IT’S ALWAYS THE HUSBAND and became a fan of Ms. Campbell with that book. And after reading this book, can’t wait to read SHE WAS THE QUIET ONE, which is in my pile of TBRs. Ms. Campbell is now on my “authors to read” list and should be on your’s too.

A white knuckle read that was hard to put down!! A story that will stay with you long after you read the last word.

An exceptional Psychological Thriller. Pick up your copy asap but be prepared that you will need to read this one in one sitting!!!!
