This year, one of the Challenges I signed up for is Blog All About It, hosted by The Herd Presents. The guideline is basically a blogging prompt challenge. Each month there’s a different prompt that you can interpret as you’d like then create a blog post around it. The 2018 list of prompts can be seen here on my Challenge Page. I will be posting for this Challenge on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

This month’s prompt is: BEGINNING

This was a tough one, but then I thought, that I would write about the beginning of my blogging adventure.

In 2008/2009 I was not able to do much physically due to severe back pain. At that time I already had a history of 3 back surgeries, and due to the pain, I knew that the inevitable of another was in my future. Reading, TV and playing games on the computer filled my days.

Knowing the boredom was getting to me, with a bit of depression setting in, at the time, my younger son was dating his future wife. He told me how her mom did online sweepstakes and had won so many things including trips and that maybe I should check it out. Great! Something new for me to do.

I entered many contests and won quite a few things, never a trip, however. Being an avid reader, I was drawn to contests for books. As I clicked on one, it brought me to a blog. A blog? What’s that? So while there, I checked it out and realized that there was a huge online book community. Then I would start clicking links to other blogs in this group. This looked like fun and something I would enjoy. But where would I begin?

At the time, I told myself that I would create a blog just as a way to keep track of the books I read with a few notes on the specific titles. But I continued to stalk the book blogs, in a good way. I was very lucky that I met Vicki from I’d Rather Be At The Beach who took me under her wing, mentored me and answered all my questions and my personal blog was introduced to the group. I then started receiving emails from authors and publishers to ask if I would read and review their book(s).

In 2011, after encouragement from a publisher and an author, I began organizing virtual book tours and now have 2 companies.

Nine years later, I am still part of the community and still enjoying it as much as I did when I first clicked on the link for the blog that started it all.

Spirit | Blog All About It

This month’s prompt is: SPIRIT

When I saw what this month’s prompt was, I had no hesitation as to what it means to me and the day approximately 30 years ago and still so vivid, that the Holy Spirit Blessed me.

We had attended the 10 am mass at our Church and the Priest mentioned that a healing Priest would be saying a special mass later in the day. At the time I was having a lot of pain/issues with my back. I called some friends to see if they would go with me but some didn’t want to, some had plans. But all day I felt this powerful and strange feeling that I HAD to go, which I finally decided to go 30 minutes before the mass. I had no idea what was about to happen.

After the mass, the priest announced that people could come up on the altar. Again, I felt that I had no control over my body and stood and walked to the altar. A caveat…having had multiple back operations I always had, and still do, an intense fear of falling due to all the hardware I have in my spine.

The healing Priest, along with our Pastor, told us to get into a horseshoe formation. I then noticed that a gentleman would stand behind the person as the Priests would stand in front of one of us on the altar. They touched and Blessed each person. I saw them Bless one person and that person fell backward. Some did, some didn’t. As I watched, them go around the people in the horseshoe formation, the fear of falling was back. But I stayed.

The Priests were now in front of me. I felt a peace, that I have never felt before, come over me. After the service, people that I knew in the congregation and our Pastor, conveyed to me what they saw. The healing Priest raised his arm to Bless and touch me, but even before he laid his hand on my shoulder, I was falling backward with no fear. The gentleman behind me wasn’t able to support me because I went down so fast. After a few seconds, I stood and went back to my seat. I felt like I was floating.

A few days later, I called our Pastor and asked if I could come and talk to him about what happened. Again, he told me what he witnessed when they came to me. The Holy Spirit was now with me. When I explained what and how I felt, he asked if I would speak, and tell my story, to adult parishioners that were taking classes to make their Confirmation. Another caveat..I freeze when I have to speak in front of people but I agreed and once again I felt no fear.

I was one of the Blessed ones that received the Holy Spirit that day. A day I will never forget.

Blog All About It | Growl

Why did I choose this Challenge? Well, if you have followed this blog, you know that I love Challenges, even though I may not complete all the ones I sign up for. I just find it to be fun. Another reason I decided to do this Challenge, is that I realized it has been ages since I have actually blogged, other than posting reviews, interviews, guest posts, giveaways, etc. Over the past few years, being busy organizing VBTs, I have slacked off with one of the main reasons I joined the Book Blogging Community.

This month’s prompt is: GROWL

This month’s prompt had me a bit stumped as to where I would go with it. But, I would assume, that when one hears and/or sees the word growl, an animal would be associated with it. Or is it just me?

My whole life, we always had a dog, up until approximately 10 years ago. The last dog, we shared our house with was my oldest son’s dog, Bronx, a Weimaraner named for the NY Yankees. Bronx was a beautiful and smart dog, however, he suffered from a severe case of separation anxiety. And with Paul in college and also working, it was Bronx and me throughout the day/night. We soon discovered how bad his anxiety was. When Paul left the house, the dog would bark for hours, HOURS! When I would try to discipline him, he would show his teeth and growl at me. Being a large dog, I will admit, he frightened me. From the first growl, Bronx and I had a mutual dislike for each other. Paul graduated from college and 2 months later, found a job in his field but it was out of state.

As I said, he was a beautiful dog and we repaired our relationship, once he moved with my son and we would go to visit. Two years ago, Bronx passed away from Cancer. Needless to say, my son was devastated but unfortunately, the radiation and surgery could not save him.

Now, the only thing that growls in our house, is our stomachs when we are hungry!!!!

This month’s prompt is: ORGANIZE

Spring has finally arrived here in RI. And that means Spring cleaning and getting my house organized. I’m a bit OCD when it comes to organization.

The only thing is years ago, I could do a room in a day. But now, and especially with my history of so many back surgeries, it takes 2-3 days, depending on the room. I just hope I finish before it’s time to start Fall cleaning.

I like things to be neat, tidy with everything in its place. So when Spring finally arrived, I started on major Spring cleaning in each room from floors to ceiling. If I haven’t used it in 5 years, it goes in the garbage. The first room I started on was my home office. Here is a picture of my desk, I moved my chair to give you a better look, and one draw where things are organized..

However, I do have a bit of a battle going on. My husband retired last year and we don’t agree on organization, which of course, my way is the right way ;-). For example, my kitchen counter. The toaster has a special place in my cabinet but my husband seems to forget where he got it from and that it should be put back.

Are you more like me or my husband?
