Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!
Today’s Topic:  Remembering
My bloggy friend Bev from My Reader’s Block, if you haven’t been by her blog, you really should stop by.  Her postings are incredible!!  OK…where was I?  Oh I remember now….as I was saying, Bev participates in a meme entitled Top Ten Tuesday whereas a book related question is asked and the blogger selects their top ten.  For example, one week it was “Top Ten Books That Made You Cry”.   Hmmmmmmm  Remember?  Ten?  So it got me thinking……..

Photobucket
Is it just me?  Should I blame it on “senior moments”?   Would you be able to recall answers to the questions?  I know I couldn’t.  Sometimes I will remember that I read a book by the title but can’t recall the plot.  Or, even the books that are 5+ ratings, and I read it, say 8 months ago, I may recall the storyline but not how it ends.  Or I will purchase a book, start reading it and it sounds familiar only then to remember that I had already read it (geeez even I will admit that is bad!)  I also have another problem with titles, that are all similar, by the same author.  I have a few of those in my EReader, some have been read, some that need to be read and I can’t remember which is which!!
So am wondering…do you remember all the books you read?  Would you be able to come up with the answer for example….the top ten of favorite female lead characters?
What are your thoughts on this topic?   Do you have suggestions for me to remember more on this topic?  Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion.
And if you have time, stop by Bev’s place and say hi!!

Today’s Topic:  Changes for 2011?
December/January will be one year of book blogging/reviewing for me.  I have learned so much about this new world, mostly from all of you, who answered my endless questions, but feel that I am doing something wrong as far as time allotment.  Take reviews for an example.  I draft it until I make edits after edits and even some more edits.  I post it on the main post of blog,  cut and paste for my Navigation Tab, cut and paste for the following GR, LT, and shelfari.  It seems like it takes me forever.  Am I doing this issue wrong?  Where do you post all of your reviews.

I have also learned that I won’t be entering into so many challenges.  Thinking back, I thought it would be a breeze and that I could get all of the challenges completed, or if not, maybe close.    I really thought that requests for reviews would be scarce.  WRONG!!  I think I also have to modify my “Review Policy” but not sure how to do this and be fair at the same time.  Say you get a book that is being published around 00/00/00 but some indie authors have also contacted you to read and review their book a month before.  Do you read the ones with dates first, and push the indie author down on the list?  I thought that if I read and reviewed as they were delivered to my house, it would be the accommodating to all and somewhat fair, but not sure if that is right!!

As you know I participate in many memes sometimes 4 in a day.  I usually do a separate post for each meme.  Since it is you,  the wonderful people that visit and comment, I was wondering, would you rather I put all the memes in one post or separate them as I do now?

One more thing,  I enjoy this meme because the topic can be anything you want it to be.  Would you be interested in something like this, with a little bit different twist, name, (would have to come up with the icon but I am getting better at that) and make it a blog hop.  I think it would be interesting what “Topic” others would want to talk about on their blog.  I usually respond to comments via email but with this meme, I respond from the blog so that it is a “discussion”.  Just a thought to see if you would be interested. I would love to host it.
I have loved every minute since joining this community but still consider myself a novice.  Any  advice, ideas and/or suggestions that you think I should change, stay status quo, do differently, etc etc,. would be greatly appreciated.  This is not only my blog, but your’s too.  You are the wonderful people that visit and leave the fantastic, thoughtful, funny and interesting comments.  2011 is just 2 months away so want to start on my new year’s resolutions/changes.

BTW….I LOVE Reese’s Peanut Butter cups!!!  So if anyone has any leftovers, you know where to find me, and trust me, they will be enjoyed and not go to waste!!!  Happy Halloween!!!

I double checked the calendar twice the other day.  As I have said in the past, I always have the TV on, tuned in to one of the cable news channels, with the volume low, just in case of breaking news (habit I have had since 9/11)  Sorry…getting back to what I was saying.  I was on the computer, my back to the TV and I did a double take when I heard the music, think I even caused a mild whiplash that I turned around so fast.  And there on the TV, a Christmas commercial!!!  Knowing that I tend to suffer from senior moments, I checked the calendar, twice.  Thinking I may have missed something, as in time, but NO, there on my calendar it was October still!!!  So it got me thinking………

Photobucket
Am I the only one that thinks it is a little too early for Christmas commercials, displays in stores, music on the radio?  We haven’t even celebrated Halloween or Thanksgiving!!  However or for whatever reason you celebrate Christmas, do you think its too early to start with commercials?  Do you think it takes away from the real meaning?  Do you think it causes more stress on some people?  When do you think it should make its retail debut?
Would love to know your thoughts!!  Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion!!

Slapdash Sunday Topic: The Chilean Miners’ Rescue

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?

That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

This week I think everyone either saw, heard of or read about the successful rescue of 33 Chilean miners.  I watched it in between blogging and reading, since my TV is on a cable news station at all times ever since 9/11.  And in this day and age of instant everything, the WORLD was watching this historic rescue.  Think about it…..a small community in Chile where 33 miners went to work one morning, like they do every day, ordinary people making a living, and then becoming a world wide news story and WATCHED by the WORLD, as they reemerged from the mine in real time (once again I may be dating myself).

The other night at supper, hubby and I had, what I thought to be, a thought provoking discussion.  So much so, that I thought I would ask the questions today.  He had been listening to Talk Radio on his drive home from work and the discussion was…

Do you think that the rescue was so successful because of divine intervention, technology or something else?

We then started discussing how these 33 ordinary men, who became WORLD known because they survived 69 days, that their personal lives also became WORLD known.  Should a line have been drawn between TV ratings and respect for these men?  Is that also part of the “instant gratification” syndrome.   Did the WORLD need to know the facts of their lives, that some had personal problems, their medical history, what their family consisted of, etc etc.  Think about it, one morning you wake up and start your daily routine, in your little corner of the world and then you are thrown into a traumatic situation, not knowing the outcome between life and death, and then the joy of knowing you will be saved, but then realizing that the WORLD knows everything about you and your life?

Should personal information of these 33 men have been broadcasted?
Can you even begin to imagine going through this trauma?
How do you think you would react if you were one of these courageous men?

Would love to hear your thoughts!!!  Lets have a Slapdash Discussion!!
