Today’s word comes from Still Midnight by Denise Mina
balaclavas
Pronunciation: \ ˌba-lə-ˈklä-və, -ˈkla- \
a knit cap for the head and neck called also balaclava helmet
I've always lived in the South where you don't need balaclavas, but I knew that word for some odd reason. Thanks for participating!
That is a word that always bugs me when I see it as I picture some kind of weird black scarf/ski mask kind of thing. Like Bermudaonion, I am Southern and we don't wear hats down here so maybe that's why.
What a fun word! I might go around the house saying that all day. Happy blogging. 🙂
Kathy: Your welcome….thank you for hosting. I am thinking since I am learning so many new words because of this meme, that I should make myself a "wonderous word" journal so I don't forget. I have those two awful conditions….senior moments (sometimes hours lol) and CRS.
Carin: I am getting the same picture in my mind when I see this word in my current read.
Sharla: LOL as long as you say it in the house. Not sure what people would think if you did it elsewhere lol.
We certainly know this word in Canada. I get nervous when I see someone wearing one, though. You never know who could be underneath it. I have a post here if you're interested.
