Synopsis (via GR)

Can you love someone to death?

Some would say Becky Gerard is a devoted mother and would do anything for her only child. Others claim she’s obsessed and can’t stop the vicious circle of finding a cure at her daughter’s expense.

Fifteen-year-old Meghan has been in and out of hospitals with a plague of unexplained illnesses. But when the ailments take a sharp turn, doctors intervene and immediately suspect Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a rare behavioral disorder where the primary caretaker, typically the mother, seeks medical help for made-up symptoms of a child. Is this what’s going on? Or is there something even more sinister at hand?

My Thoughts

Could someone please help me get up?! My jaw hit the floor and the rest of my body followed.

Damn! Damn! DAMN!!!!!

This might be the hardest review I have ever written because there is so much to say but do not want one little spoiler slip.

I received an ARC from the publisher, St. Martins Press, along with some emails and the Press Release, asking for me to choose #ProtectMeghan or #BelieveBecky. It also stated that this is “a bestselling phenomenon”. Was it in my opinion? And who did I choose?

As the synopsis states, Becky Girard’s daughter has been seen by so many doctors and hospitals due to her debilitating health. However, no diagnosis has been rendered as to why this child is so sick.

Until she meets Dr. Zach Fisher! A specialist in mitochondrial disease which is very hard to diagnose and the disease that also took his son’s life. Could he be right that Meghan has the same disease or is his grief overshadowing the true diagnosis?

Or?

Is it that Becky, who grew up knowing how to trick doctors to say that there is an illness present, because that is how her mother was able to collect disability checks and not have to work? Her husband Carl is starting to think, and agree with the majority of doctors, that their daughter is sick due to Munchausen’s By Proxy by Becky.

A bone-chilling read with suspense so profound, that it had me turning the pages at warp speed. Many twists and turns that had me reeling! A story that will leave you breathless and with a “book hangover”!

Do I think that this is “a bestselling phenomenon? ABSOLUTELY!! Who did I choose?

#Protect Meghan or #BelieveBecky? This book has 367 pages and not until I was on page 323, did I decide which team I was on. I’m not going to say which one but would love to see what you think.

And to Mr. Palmer, you just gained another fan and will be looking to read more books by you!

Don’t miss out on this exhilarating read!!!!
