Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!
Today’s Topic:  Nostalgia
I hope you don’t mind that this week is not a book/blog topic but will explain why this came to mind and wanted to share with you!!
The past few weeks, I have mentioned that hubby and I will soon be empty nesters.  Our youngest (24 yrs old) moved out of state (5 hr drive away) this past November.  This week, our oldest (26 yrs old) will be closing on a house he bought, which is also out of state (90min drive) and will be moving out within the next few weeks.  We are so very proud of both of them especially seeing the “men” they have become.
Friday night, I started reading The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender.  The first chapter began with 9 year old Rose arriving home from school finding her mom starting to bake a lemon cake for Rose’s birthday.
And it got me thinking to when my boys were that age and their birthdays.  To this day, their friends from when they were in elementary school, will tell me how they couldn’t wait for the boys to open their lunch boxes.  Their friends, knowing of this tradition would wait to start on their own lunches until the boys opened their lunch box to see if I had done it again!!!!
On their birthdays, from kindergarten to high school…yes high school, I would pack their lunches in a certain way.  You would think, when you hear what I did, that they would be embarrassed, especially in high school but they have told me since it wouldn’t have been their bday if I hadn’t done it.  They have also told me that they will be passing on this tradition when they have children.
I would make their sandwich, wrap it in wax paper, and then placed in a baggie.  But it didn’t end there.  I would then wrap that sandwich package in birthday paper and attach a bow.  The same with their snack, which was always a cupcake, wrapped in birthday paper with a bow and same with their drink, which was always a soda, the only day they were allowed a soda for their lunchbox drink, wrapped in birthday gift wrap and another bow.
So today’s topic/question is this.  Did you have a special tradition with your kids?  Or maybe even a tradition that your mom started and has been a pleasant memory for you.  Would love to hear your nostalgic story!!!  So today is not a slapdash discussion but a slapdash memory and/or story !!!

Slapdash Sunday Topic: One Book vs. Multiple Books

(And since I am always asking questions, I truly believe this is another form of learning, this meme is perfect for me)
This past Thursday, there was a question for the meme Booking Through Thursday.  Kathy from Bermudaonion and I discussed it a little.  So I then started thinking……..

Photobucket

That this would be a good Slapdash Sunday Topic!!!
The question was:  Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?

As far back as I can remember, and believe me that is a long way back, I have never read more than 1 book at a time.  I am amazed at the number of bloggers that read multiple books at a time.  I don’t quite understand this concept.  For me, when I read, it is for pure pleasure, entertainment and enjoyment.  I want to give all my attention to my current read.  If I were to read more than one book, I would think that I would mix up the characters, plot, where I last left off, etc etc.

So my questions for today are:  Do you read one book at a time?  Or are you a multiple book reader?  If you are reading more than one book, what makes you pick up one over the other?  Do you get the plots confused?  Do you have to reread the last chapter read to refresh your memory?  Do you find it enjoyable reading more than one book?  Do you find that you get the same enjoyment out of reading multiple books as compared to reading one at a time?  What is the greatest number of books that you have read at one time?

Since I have never read more than one book at a time, maybe I am missing out, so would love to hear your thoughts on this topic!!  What do you think about this topic?  Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion!!!

Am very, very late posting today.  My laptop went on strike….guess I am overworking Lily Laptop but hubby came to the rescue.    Hope everyone is having a great weekend.  My plans for today is to catch up on all my computer to-dos and then hoping to finish my current read.  What are your plans for this fabulous Sunday.  Be on the look out…more giveaways will be posted within the next couple of days.  And don’t forget to enter for AH-CHOO,  cold and flu season is just a few months away to this would be a great reference book for the coming months.

Today’s topic:  Requested Review Books:
As I slowly work my way through all my requested review books, I was wondering…..
Photobucket
Do you have a review policy?  Do you read your requested books according to your schedule or the schedule of the person requesting a review?
According to my review policy, I read my requested reviews in the order that I receive them.  As soon as I receive a book, a post-it is attached, the next number in sequence is noted, who the request is from and any other information for that book.  I also, add it to my TBR Reading Schedule located on my blog so that agents/authors can see where their book is in relation to my reading schedule.

How do you decide which books you read from your requested review book pile?  Do you have a schedule as to how you read books that are requested?  How do you keep track of all your books?  How do you manage your requested review books?
Would love to hear!!  Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion!!

The other day I added and catalogued the newest book I received to be reviewed.  As I looked at my pile, I started thinking, which is usually dangerous (lol) for me, and thought that the questions I had would be a good topic for today.
Do you get a lot of requests?  Or do you seek out books to review?  Do you think that because of this new phenomenon of social media outlets and book blogging/reviewing sites, that you are getting more requests from publishers, authors and agents?  Are there more requests this year than in the past?
What are your thoughts and/or opinions on this topic….would love to hear.  Lets have a Slapdash Discussion!!
