Category: 2011 Challenges

I surrender…..

Yes…I surrender.  As hard as it to say, I must and the numbers show it.   This year had many real life personal challenges that took priority over everything, even reading. And even though my reading was affected, including my challenges, I am looking forward to, being optimistic and getting excited about 2012.  I have started setting up my Challenge page, stalking blogs for more challenges and getting ready for the new year.  So I thought I would start cleaning house, removing the challenges that I failed at, and making room for new ones.

I entered 18 Challenges in 2011.  I know…I am a Challenge Addict plus a button addict.  That’s why Gina from Hott Books and I are once again co hosting the Challenge Addict Challenge, for those of us who have this somewhat little, run of the mill, large, whopper of, in need of an intervention addiction. lol
To date I have only read 45 books, so embarrassed, but there were months, that I was lucky if I finished one book.  The following Challenges I am surrendering, knowing that I will not be able to complete within a month.

THE THREE R'SPhotobucketPhotobucket
            2 of ?                                                3 of 5                                             1 of 4

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
           20 of 50                                        1 of 12                                         1 of 3

However, even with the little I did read, I did manage to complete some of my 2011 Challenges!!   I am excited that some of the challenges I was hoping for are returning and I am signed up and ready to go, then there are others that I am anxiously awaiting to see if they get posted on A Novel Challenge in hopes they will be returning and while I am stalking the site, I am finding new challenges too.  2012 is going to be my year of reading!!!!
And now…..my TBR bookcase, Sony EReader and Kindle are full and no doubt will have many more titles added throughout the year, thanks to everyone’s reviews and the memes that I participate in, and now I sit and wait for  the New Year!!!

Help is on the way!!!

Now that ball has dropped and everyone has watched 2011 be ushered in, still trying to get used to writing 11 instead of 10, and more importantly saying, OMG!!!! I signed up for how many challenges?”  Well………

need help
I found another mini challenge, ( I know, just what you needed) but this is a Read-A-Thon via Bev’s blog, My Reader’s Block, and thought I would share it with all of you.  I have already signed up and hope to get a lot of reading done, at least until Bloggiesta starts, because Gina from Hott Books felt that I needed to do this challenge too.
Here is the info for the Read-A-Thon:
Michelle from The True Book Addict is hosting.

The read-a-thon is one week away and I’m super excited…can’t wait for an excuse to sit around and read! I don’t care what needs to be done around the house (aside from my writing goals). I’m going to read, read, read! Here are the dates and times for the read-a-thon: Monday, January 17 at 12 am until Sunday, January 23 at 11:59 pm (adjust your time zone as appropriate…I’m on central time). As I’m pretty sure there are no other read-a-thons that week (I checked and double checked so as to not intrude on someone else’s event), we will be using #readathon hashtag on Twitter. I would really appreciate any help in spreading the word. Also, if there are any bloggers and/or authors out there who would like to host a mini-challenge/giveaway during the event, please email me at truebookaddictATgmailDOTcom. Also, please email me or leave a comment if you have any questions. You can sign up and participate at any time during the read-a-thon…this is a flexible event. I hope you will join me for a week of reading fun!

This Is It…..

OK….so Self and I have been having a dialogue over the past few days.  We agree that I am a lost cause when it comes to challenges.  It was either Gina, my buddy from Hott Books, or Julie, my other buddy from Reading Without Restraint…sorry having a senior moment..has brought it to my attention why they think I like challenges, not only for the concept but also for the adorable buttons.  And I know if I say they are right, I’ll never hear the end of it, but, they are right!!!!

2010 was the first time ever that I kept record of how many books I read in a year.  I had signed up for the 2010 100+ Challenge knowing that I would never get close but wanted to see just how close I would get.  I didn’t do too bad considering I had some rough months with surgeries and slumps and still accomplished to get 68 books read.  And then today…the Musing Monday question was just about this topic.  I have been debating if I should sign up again for a 2011 100+ to see if I get any closer.  I have had some very encouraging comments all day from from very kind visitors and Self and I have talked about:

And we have decided, what’s one more, at this point!!!  And please if you see me pulling up to the front door of A Novel Challenge, lock the deadbolts!!!!

a very quiet P.S.

OK, I admit, a couple of months ago, I said that I wasn’t going to sign up for as many challenges in 2011.  LOL  Did I listen???  NO !!!  Not only did I sign up for more, I am even cohosting The Three Rs Challenge.

Photobucket

I have been debating whether to add one more.  Heck…what’s one more at this rate.  And this one is truly a challenge.  I signed up for it in 2010 and didn’t read one book for the category, so am going to try again.

Teddy of So Many Precious Books, So Little Time is hosting the Books Won Challenge for a second year. She writes:
I created this challenge last year to challenge myself and others that have won books, to read and review some of them. The reason publishing companies supply books for book bloggers to give away is to get word out about the books and create buzz. I didn’t do very well with this challenge in 2010, I only read one won book. However, 2011 is a New Year and a fresh start. I feel bad that I haven’t read many of the book I have won and want to make an effort to read them in 2011.
If you would like to join me, here are the levels:
Honorable Mention: Read 1-3 book you won.  CHOOSING THIS LEVEL
Bronze: Read 4-6 books you won.
Silver: Read 7-9 Books you won.
Gold: Read 10 or more books you won.
The Rules:
1. You must write a review for each book that you read for it to count. If you do not have a blog you can write your reviews on a place like Amazon, Powell’s, Chapters, etc.
2.Crossovers with other challenges are okay.
3. Audiobooks and ebooks count, as long as you won them.
4. You can change up levels but cannot go back down a level.
5. You don’t have to make a list ahead of time for this challenge but you can if you want to.
