I would like to explain how this came to fruition. Hubby and I were having a discussion about the old days, (for the young’ens reading this..a little history lesson) but before the dark age. When Sundays were special and had traditions and rituals. Sunday mornings Church, come home to a big gravy (sauce) cooking on the stove, a big Sunday dinner, then either off to visit relatives/friends or wait for relatives/friends to drop by. We would spend the afternoon sitting around the table, talking, catching up, having coffee, pizza, calzones, etc etc, dessert. And now, how sad, all those traditions are gone. And then I got to thinking, why not have something similar here on my blog. This past year, I have met so many amazing and wonderful people through blogging, and how I am in awe of what they do and accomplish. How much respect I have for them, for their honesty, integrity, credibility and so enjoy when a bit of their personality shines through. So every Sunday, here at my place, the coffee will be on, the dessert is on the table and friends will be stopping by. And I will be rolling out the red carpet for my Sunday Shining Star Blogger guest.
*When and why did you start blogging?
Ohhh..where do I begin? First, I really enjoyed having Karen as my guest today. I learned so much more about her that I didn’t know, which is what I would think would happen if all of us got together each week and just sat around gabbing. To continue…… There were a handful of blogs that I came across when I first stumbled into this community, and her blog was one of them. I must have been very lucky, because by the time that I finally found the courage to email them, not only did I get a response, but they mentored me and I can honestly say that to this day, I can also call them my friend, and Karen is definitely in that category. If you could only see our emails, you would know..they are like novellas. I remember spending hours on her blog, soaking up everything, entering all the books related to mystery, wondering where she found her graphics, laughing at the captions she puts with her puppy, wondering when she slept, ate, shopped, etc etc when she was posting 2-3 giveaways and reviews per day which meant she must have been reading 24/7. I hope she doesn’t mind me telling this story, but, I think it is a bit funny. My first impression of her blog was that she did this professionally, by that I mean, I thought she was someone who had a big job in the “publishing” world, and had been “in business” for many, many years….what did I know…I didn’t even know what a blog was at that point. After stalking her for a few months, and a few other blogs I started seeing the “subscribe via email”…well my “you got mail” was full of news letters in a matter of weeks. Except for the “professional one” and darn…I didn’t want to miss anything that was going on there. So I got up the courage and emailed her, asking if she would please put me on her newsletter list. I also asked her a few other questions. And , to my surprise, I was shocked that within a few hours a response from this important person was in my mailbox and told me that she had been thinking about it and would look into it and thanked me for emailing her. This “professional” THANKED ME!!! wow I thought I was really special lol. And then a couple of weeks later she emailed me again, told me the newsletter was in place, and also took the time and explained some general issues about blogging and specific issues about her blog….WOW..was I surprised when she explained to me how long she had been blogging and that she wasn’t some CEO..lol. even so…Karen, in my eyes…is still a “PROFESSIONAL CEO” SHINING STAR. And btw….she isn’t being a biased grandmother….her grandson is absolutely beautiful…a very handsome little man!!!! Thank you, Karen, for all the books that I have won from your site and for being my guest today. Since it seems that I have great luck on your blog, would you mind buying me a lottery ticket lol?! And for those who stopped by to meet and greet my Shining Star, she has some great giveaways going on at her at her place, so check them out. I guarantee, there will be a book giveaway that you will want to enter. Good Luck!!
Congrats to Karen, so well-deserved, and yes I do have a few wins of hers on my shelf.
BTW Cheryl, I do miss those olden days of big Sunday dinners and company just sitting around talking, and relaxing. Life has gotten to hectic for many.
Enjoy your Sunday.
Hello Karen! Nice to meet you 🙂 I hope you finish those 2 books and get them published so that we can all read them!
WOW! Cheryl, this is amazing. Thank you SO MUCH! I wonder how many people are like me and can remember that just a little while ago, you were a person starting out with a blog and look at you now. You have gone way beyond what I do and I know your quest for new things and always making your blog have the latest and best things is the reason for this. I am sure new visitors think you have been at this forever…and you ARE a professional as well. This Sunday Shining Star is just an amazing tribute and honor. I am humbled by your words and your time spent on this…but also thankful for our "virtual" friendship. I know I shall be returning for sure on Sundays to visit and have a cup of coffee and chat from now on. I am also going to make sure there is a link on my blog where people can come see your Sunday Shining Stars. I will be stopping by during the day and hope to meet more new people like Misha and say hi to those I know already like Diane. Thank you again! Karen aka "Bingo"
Misha: I have been thinking the same thing. I can't wait to read them. Hope you stop by her place and and say hi.
Karen: Thank you for the kind words, they really mean a lot coming from the CEO lol, however, today, you are my guest and the Sunday Star so enjoy!! You know, as I have done for the past year, visit your place and enter all your great giveaways, laugh at the comments you post with your puppy (like the one today…hysterical!!) and just enjoy everything on your blog!!! BTW Happy Blogiversary and to many more!!!
I love Karen's blog too and try to visit often and am making an effort this year when visiting to not just lurk, read and leave my leave a comment as well.
Cheryl, pass me a piece of that coffee cake I see you hiding. I am starving today! lol
Hello blogoshpere! I am the mother of Karen's incredibly handsome grandson: ) and our family is so proud of her work with "the blog" as we call it. Thank you for honoring her here, I know that she pours a great deal of time and energy into creating something enjoyable for her fellow bookophiles, and your accolades are well deserved. Any person who counts Karen among their friends, actual or virtual is a fortunate indeed!
Glad to get to know Karen a bit more today. I have entered quite a few of her giveaways too!
Hi Karen,
I agree that you are so deserving of this accolade. You do so much for your readers & I want you to know I appreciate it all. I respect your reviews & have purchased books based upon them. I have won several of your contests. I would keep coming back even if there were no giveaways just to see what you and Mrs M are doing and reading. I have also communicated with Karen via e-mail and feel that she is a treasured cyber friend.
Love & Hugs (as always)

Also, Happy Friendship Month to you as well since it is coming up shortly!
I am one of the few who is meeting Bingo for the first time today. What an interesting interview today, and I will be visiting her blog right now. Thanks Cheryl for the interesting Shining Star today.
I am heading over to Karen's blog to sign up as a follower now! Thanks Cheryl…..I always love finding new blogs to follow!
Love Karen and her blog! She is a wonderful person to know around the blogosphere. Great to learn more about the woman behind Bingo! And congrats on your new grandson, Karen!
I am ashamed to to say it has been awhile since stopping by Karen's blog… However when I did on a regular basis it was not to enter the giveaways but to see what was "new" and to read and enjoy all the little tidbits of fun…
You are right though Cheryl it seemed like and still is a "Professional" Blog, and Karen never worry about your posts being too long because the rules do not always apply when the content is interesting and fun!
Thank you to all the friends and new friends for commenting during the day. And how lovely my sweet daughter-in-law commented. She is indeed the mother of my precious grandson and mom of my book buddy assistant pup, "Ms. M". I love this idea because not only do I feel so special today but I am meeting more wonderful people. I myself need to get out to other blogs more often. I shall make that a goal! Thank you Jackie, Michelle, Julie, Nise, Pamela, Connie, Dolly, and Gigi Ann…and my dear Laura. What fun it will be to now look for you guys over at Bingo! And DO NOT FORGET the lady who got this started, CHERYL!…and yep, that coffee cake does sound yummy!
Bookin with Bingo is one of my favorite blogs and I subscribe to MANY. I have won several books in her giveaways and appreciate that she reviews varied genres. I have recommended her blog to my other virtual friends as well.
Congrats, Karen! I always love visiting your blog!
I love Karen's blog. Just discovered it recently. Love the little girl picture. What grade?

Fun interview. I've been thinking about blogging, but I just don't know if I'd be able to keep up with all the things I like to do…including reading!

I wanted to come by and see what you wrote about my wife's cousin. She is a wonderful family member and it is nice to see so many people get to know more about her blogging that she is so faithful to.
