Guest Author Christy Dorritty

Hi everyone!!  Before we start, I need for you to take your computer into another room, the kitchen…I’ll wait………………..

OK, now I need for you to find your apron that you have shoved in some draw….I’ll wait………………

I think we are all set now!!  What a treat I have for you, not only in who today’s guest is, but the treat is also about food.  One of our peers, Christy from Dearest Dreams is stopping by while on her first virtual tour, visiting and talking about a book that has just been published.  Not any book, a Cookbook.  And not just a Cookbook, but a Cookbook filled with recipes of Christy’s and reviews from many other bloggers.  So please help me welcome our blogging friend, now published author, Christy Dorritty !!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Christy Dorrity loves to read about cooking and cook about reading. She was taught early to have a discriminating taste for both books and food. Christy grew up on a trout ranch in Star Valley, Wyoming. She taught elementary school and lives in Utah with her husband and their five children. When Christy’s not
reading or writing, she’s probably trying out a new recipe in the kitchen. You can find her online at http://www.christydorrity.com/.

From her website:
My name is Christy Dorrity. I have four boys and one girl. I love to read, write, cook and dance.

I am a freelance writer and author. My articles have appeared in Feis America Magazine and DiddlyiMag. I write for my local newspaper, The Syracuse Islander, and I recently had an article accepted for the children’s Friend Magazine.

My first ebook, The 2011 Book Blogger’s Cookbook, with a forward written by Amanda Hocking, will be released in June through Amazon and Smashwords. My WIP is a YA fantasy novel about a teen who discovers a passion for Irish dancing and in the process learns of unselfish love.

Dear family and friends,

I’m happy to announce the launch of my new cookbook—The 2011 Book Blogger’s Cookbook. It is available on Amazon for Kindle and can be read on any e-reader, PC or MAC.

The 2011 Book Blogger’s Cookbook includes a foreword by Amanda Hocking, author of the USA Today Bestselling Trylle Trilogy and showcases over seventy reviews with links to book review blogs and author websites. You can read more about the cookbook at www.bookbloggerscookbook.com.

To celebrate the launch of the cookbook, I am holding a virtual launch tour. Anyone who visits the great author’s and book blogger’s blogs on the tour and leaves a comment will be entered to win a Kindle and other great prizes. Every person who purchases The 2011 Book Blogger’s Cookbook during the launch tour will receive a free bonus recipe booklet. See my website for more information about the book launch.

Please take a moment to share my good news with friends and family that you know would be interested in reading a book that combines tasty reads and adventurous recipes.

GUEST POST

Book Bloggers: A resource in an ever changing publishing world.

Anyone can be an author these days. Your neighbor can publish his gardening tips and have a bestselling Kindle short. It’s hard to know if you are getting a good book for your money. A thriller e-book might be well worth the $9.99 you purchase it for, but you may regret the $.99 you spent on the how-to book whose
professional cover was hiding a sloppy manuscript.  So how is a person supposed to navigate the waves of e-books that are flooding the market? Book bloggers have been around for years and recently more and more readers are recognizing them for what they are-a reference for honest reviews of books on the market.

Book bloggers receive no compensation for the time they spend reading and reviewing books in all genres. They offer a valuable resource to those who want unbiased reviews. Authors who write quality manuscripts benefit from book bloggers. Just ask Amanda Hocking, author the USA Today Bestselling Trylle Trilogy. On her blog, Amanda credits her phenomenal success to book bloggers.  Try doing an internet search for a review. For example, you could search for “reviews of Amanda Hocking’s ‘Switched'” and get access to dozens of impartial reviews. I’m willing to bet that, after reading what book bloggers have to say, you will have a pretty good idea of whether or not the book is for you.

Book Bloggers are fast becoming the most trusted resource for reliable reviews in a world where the very definitions of publishing and author are in flux. The book industry is changing so quickly that it’s hard to imagine what the future holds for readers, authors and reviewers.

Have book bloggers helped you find good reads? Do you think book bloggers will affect the publishing community?

Monday’s Memes

Photobucket
Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading
Today’s question:
Do you think it makes you NOT (or less) “well-read” if there are certain genres that you won’t read because you KNOW you won’t enjoy them? Why?

My answer:
At times, Yes.  But that is pressure and guilt that I put on myself.  I have ambivalent feelings on this topic, especially when I blog hop and  see conversations regarding the “classics” and “historicals”.  I respect those that read books of these genres and enjoy them,  I feel left out in the formidable cold and not a “well rounded” reader.  However,  on the other hand, I read for pure enjoyment and pleasure.  There are so many books that are in my tbr bookcase of the books in genres that I do enjoy and that are just sitting there waiting for their turn to be picked up and  read, and without doubt, know more will be added to those shelves.  So I guess my question to myself is….should I read a book that I probably won’t enjoy to feel “well rounded” or read books that I do enjoy and take pleasure from.  My bookcase books win!!

Photobucket
July is being hosted by Gwen from A Sea of Books

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia of A girl and her books and is now on tour.
According to Marcia, “Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.”
No books this week for me    It has been a while since my my mailbox went on vacation, however, I will still be hopping and adding books even though I know that I shouldn’t add any more to my tbr bucket list.  But what is a book addict to do?  Happy Reading all!!
