Monday Memes (2 of 2)

MONDAY
Photobucket
Before we get to today’s memes, I need to express my thanks to all of you again.  Yesterday I posted that I had missed my own Blogaversary, I thought that it was at the end of December but realized, by accident, that it was around the beginning of November.  Now another milestone has been reached and it’s because of you.  THANK YOU!!!  There is not a better  way to enjoy my morning coffee.  I opened up my blog for today’s postings, seeing so many comments that need to be moderated and THEN to see…500 followers!!!!  500?  Can’t be!!!  I did a double take on that one!!!  And yes…it says 500!!!!  I am amazed.  And what is even better, is that they are the bestest followers anyone could have!!!!!  So again, from the bottom of my heart….THANK YOU!!!  And to celebrate, another giveaway will be added to the other current giveaways!!

This week’s question:
I was reading one of my favorite blogs, the other day, and came across a post that talked about truth vs. fact. Part of the post had this to say:
“From my childhood on, I’d learned a lot of truth about the human condition from reading fiction. In many cases, I learned more from fiction than from observing my real world…
I think that people who discount fiction don’t really understand it–or haven’t read much of it. They don’t grasp the power of story to carry truth.
…Some truths are universal and timeless (like the lessons on friendship learned from Charlotte’s Web.)
My all-time favorite children’s book was Little Women. I learned a lot of important truths from the March family: how to love deeply, how to grieve a loss and go on, and how to feed the imagination…”
At the end of the post, there is a question posed, and this is what I’m using for today’s MUSING MONDAYS: What truths do you remember learning in fiction?
My answer:
I believe that fiction, in most cases, is written based on real life experiences.  I agree with the statement, about those who do not understand the power of reading fiction, that there is a lesson to be learned.  However, in my case, I have learned more from my own life experiences.  I do tend to compare characters’ relationships and reactions to different incidents that I have experienced in my own life,  sometimes coming away with a different outlook on some of those instances.  And on some issues, that I haven’t experienced, I find it thought provoking  as to how I would handle it.  I am a big believer, that no matter what is read, there is always knowledge behind the words.

November is being hosted by Julie from Knitting and Sundries
Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia of The Printed Page and is now on tour.

According to Marcia, “Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.”
This was a slow week.  Isn’t it funny how, even though we have enough to read, we still look forward to seeing the mail carrier on a daily basis, wondering if any goodies will be delivered!!

From Java’s Blog:”Meet Me On Monday!”
Blogging is a funny thing…we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, “who is this person!?” I know them…but yet I don’t know them! I want to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great way for all of us to “meet” each other!
Every Sunday I will post five get to know you questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!
“Its a great way to to meet new friends and for others to get to know me better….one Monday at a time!!!”….as quoted by the Chacogirl!!
Questions:
1. How many pillows do you sleep with?

Just one
2. Where will you eat on Thanksgiving?

Eating at the in-laws.

3. Would you rather go to a party or host a party?
party
This is a hard one because I enjoy both.  For 24 years we hosted an “Italian Christmas Eve” that everyone looked forward to.  The night started with a sit down dinner for immediate family and very close friends that included the traditional 7 fish dinner.  Then around 10pm, we would host an open house with more goodies until the wee hours into Christmas morning.
Both of my son’s friends would warm up the left overs and said that it had become their tradition too.

4. How many purses (for the guys..wallets) do you own?
pocketbooks
Too many

5. What is your favorite kind of seafood?
lobster
Baked stuffed with a couple of baked stuffed shrimp on the side.  I eat a lot of fish.

SUNDAY
Photobucket
Hosted by Kayla at The Eclectic Element

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

Today’s Topic:  2011 Challenges
I was so excited the other day when I saw, in my google reader, the perfect challenge for me.  I was lucky that I even caught it!!!!!  For a few days before that, I had been trying to catch up with all my blog/computer to-dos after our little road trip to see our son, that I didn’t even have the time to check out my google reader.  So, the low wattage bulb  (lol)  went on and thought that this would be a good topic for today!!  A day to share!!! ………

Photobucket

………Have I missed some?  Has someone posted that a certain challenge will be in place for 2011 but linky list is not up yet and I missed that too?  Are you in the same position as me, that you are preparing and/or trying to prepare for your 2011 Challenges?    Have you joined any challenges for 2011?  Which ones?  If you did, could you also provide the blog’s site link?  Do you know or have you seen any others that you would like to share?
So instead of a discussion, I thought we could have a Slapdash Share !!!!

So far, I signed up for the following:

I have mentioned that things have been a bit chaotic here with some real life issues.  And that I have been trying to catch up with blog to-dos, from not taking my laptop out of the trunk when the hubby and I took our road trip to PA, like drafting and posting a lot of giveaways and Guest Author posts.  Plus the fact that I suffer from 2 conditions known as:
However my realization could not have come at a more perfect time, especially with the Follower-Gratitude Giveaway.  I thought my blogaversary was in December, WRONG, it was the beginning of November!!!  I can’t believe it has been one year since stumbling upon a book blog!!  I have made so many special friends and each and every one of you have taught me so much.  I never imagined that a year ago, when I created a “page” to keep track of the books I read, that it would turn out to be the blog that it is today.  And it’s because of you!!!!! I have loved every minute and look forward to another year.  A huge THANK YOU to each and every follower.  OK..time to blow out the candle, grab a coffee/tea, cut the cake and enjoy a slice.  BTW…I baked one with 0 calories lol.
Again, a BIG THANK YOU…I look forward to continuing old friendships and making new.  This blog is because of you, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you!!

A Bit Of Me

SATURDAY
Kudos
Before getting to today’s meme, I would like to share something with you all.  With Thanksgiving next week, we should remember and give thanks to our military and their families, who are giving of themselves for our freedom and security.
So many authors give us books that we love, but Kudos to these 5 authors, that also gave to our military men and women.  I wanted to give them the recognition they deserve:
International Thriller Writers’ USO Tour, “Operation Thriller”

Five of today’s most critically acclaimed thriller writers (left to right) Douglas Preston, Steve Berry, David Morrell, James Rollins, and Andy Harp posed for a group photo during a USO meet-and-greet in Kuwait on November 8, 2010. Part of a week-long USO tour entitled “Operation Thriller,” the authors were in the Middle East extending America’s heartfelt thanks to US troops.

We all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.
This weeks question:  Name at least one (more if you want) thing you are grateful for.

This week’s question:
Since Thanksgiving is coming up next week, let’s use this week’s Hop to share what we are most thankful for and what our holiday traditions are!”
My Answer:
Without question….family and friends.  I am also thankful, and proud, of my 2 sons.  They both are,  happy, respectful, hard working and caring adults.  Growing up, there were some hair pulling moments, but overall, they were good kids.  They were the typical “teenagers” but never got in trouble outside of home.  I absolutely love that they are so close, when they lived here, they would go out with their friends but it got to the point that their individual friends became each others’ friends and they all “hung out together”.  Now that they live in different states, the call each other often.  They are what I am most thankful for.
We usually eat at mil and then go visit my mother and sister.  It is hard because of my mother’s lack of mobility, to include her outside of her assisted living facility.  Only one son will be coming “home” for Thanksgiving but will be greatly missed.
