Musing Mondays (2 of 3)

MONDAY
Photobucket
This will be the first time in 6 months that I will not be participating in Mailbox Monday.  Last week my postal carrier and mailbox had a respite and no books were delivered.  I have ambivalent feelings with regard to this..on one hand, I anxiously await for my postal carrier to deposit any goodies in the way of books, but then on the other hand, this little break will hopefully give me a chance to do a little catch up.  But I will be hopping to see what everyone found in their mail boxes.

  This week’s musing asks…

What books are you wishing for MOST right now?
My Response:
I know this is going to sound silly, but, all the books that are in my tbr piles, what is on my personal tbr shelves and my yet to purchase tbr list.  As far as my requested review pile, whenever I grab the book that will become my current read, and see what  the next book will be, I can’t wait to read it.  When I look at my personal tbr shelves and see so many that are waiting to be read, I can’t wait.  Like a mother who loves her kids equally, that is how I feel about all the books that are presently in my house.

Review "Buying Time" (posting 1 of 3)

Buying Time by Pamela Samuels Young
Published by Goldman House Publishing
ISBN 9780981562711
At the request of Pump Up Your Book, a PB copy was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion.
Synopsis (back of book): Every life has a price. Waverly Sloan is a down-on-his-luck lawyer. But just when he’s about to hit rock bottom, he stumbles upon a business with the potential too solve all his problems.
In Waverly’s new line of work, he comes to the aid of people in desperate need of cash. But there’s a catch, His clients must be terminally ill and willing to sign over rights to their life insurance policies before they can collect a dime. Waverly then finds investors eager to advance them thousands of dollars-including a hefty broker’s fee for himself-in exchange for a significant return on their investment once the clients take their last breath.
The stakes get higher when Waverly brokers the policy of the cancer-stricken wife of Lawrence Erickson, a high-powered lawyer who’s bucking to become the next U.S. Attorney General, When Waverly’s clients start dying sooner than they should, both Waverly’s clients start dying sooner than they should, both Waverly and Erickson-who has some skeletons of his own to hide-are unwittingly drawn into a perilous web of greed, blackmail and murder.
My Thoughts and Opinion: There is so much to say about this book and all positive. When I read a book for a review, I have a little checklist in the back of my mind that I use to critique a book. First, the description, Buying Time is a legal thriller, however, it was not bogged down with a lot of legal terminology where the reader needs to have a prerequisite of being a 4th year law student to understand. The legal jargon was worked into the story line so that it was easily understandable. Now to my check list. Did I get pulled into the plot and when? Check, on page 1 of the Prologue. Were the characters brought to life and relateable? Check. Was it, as I call it, “a one more chapter” read? Check. The chapters were short with chapters alternating with the different characters and ending with a mini cliff hanger that this reader had to read on until I got to the next chapter of this character. Was it a page turner? Check, all 414 pages. Was I able to conjure up vivid imagery due to the author’s writing style for characters and scenes? Check. Was I so engrossed into the story that I didn’t realize what was going on around me? Check. Did I enjoy it? Can I honestly recommend this book? Check and Check. A nonstop fast paced legal thriller that must be read!!

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

Today’s topic:  Requested Review Books:
As I slowly work my way through all my requested review books, I was wondering…..
Photobucket
Do you have a review policy?  Do you read your requested books according to your schedule or the schedule of the person requesting a review?
According to my review policy, I read my requested reviews in the order that I receive them.  As soon as I receive a book, a post-it is attached, the next number in sequence is noted, who the request is from and any other information for that book.  I also, add it to my TBR Reading Schedule located on my blog so that agents/authors can see where their book is in relation to my reading schedule.

How do you decide which books you read from your requested review book pile?  Do you have a schedule as to how you read books that are requested?  How do you keep track of all your books?  How do you manage your requested review books?
Would love to hear!!  Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion!!

Heart2Heart said… 1 I’d love to win a copy of this book as I am in the works of being more healthy in time for my oldest daughter’s graduation next summer. This would be the perfect start for me.
