Where do I start?

This was a surprise delivery from the Publisher and delighted that it was sent to me.

Did you ever read a book and when you read the last word, you just sat there speechless and trying to process what just happened? That’s what happened to me. Not only after I read the last word, which was last night, I’m still trying to digest it!

Amber is in a coma which was the result of a horrific car accident. Even though she can’t talk or move, she is aware of those talking around her. However, trying to figure out what happened, her thoughts are confusing to her. Are they just dreams or are they real?

The story alternates between the present, what happened prior to the accident and her childhood at the age of 10. Short chapters that had me saying “just one more chapter”, which resulted in reading many more. This book was so hard to put down!

This book is the debut novel by the author, a chilling psychological thriller, so I can’t wait to see what she has in store for her next story. She is an author that you should put on your radar!

Captivating and engrossing.!! A shocking and climatic ending! A true psychological thriller!

My Thoughts and Opinion:

A poignant, heartbreaking, and at times emotionally raw, memoir of the devastating disease of Alzheimer’s affecting both the patient and family that love her.

This book touched me to the core in more ways than one, in the different roles of my life. A daughter, having been the sole caretaker of my own mother several years ago and as a retired nurse, caring for patients afflicted by the disease.

A once vibrant, independent and active woman, Ruth Swerdloff, starts to realize that she is starting to forget the little things in life. And then the shattering diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. It also tells of the stages of this cruel disease, and what it robs the patient of, that has it.

The story is told in both Ruth’s and her daughter’s, as the caretaker, perspectives. How it destroys the mind of the patient and the emotional and physical toll it takes on the caretaker.

It is a book, that I feel should be read by everyone, because I believe a reader may, unfortunately, could find themselves in either situation.

A touching and tragic story of a daughter’s love and a beautiful legacy to her mother Ruthie!!! A must read and highly recommend!

This is the 3rd book in THE SULLIVANS boxed set but easily read as a stand alone.

Gabe Sullivan, one of eight siblings and dedicated firefighter rescues Megan Harris, and her daughter, in an apartment fire. Having received a head injury due to the incident, Megan and Summer visit him at the hospital to thank him for saving them from what could have been a different outcome. But neither Gabe nor Megan, could have imagined what happened when they met. However, Summer did and began her plan for match making.

Both Gabe and Megan have a lot of baggage and aren’t open to even thinking about a relationship. But can they both let down their walls?

It’s been a while that I have read a contemporary romance, but found that I enjoyed it. I was rooting for this couple from the start and found myself reading faster to see how it would end.

The author also introduces the reader to the other 7 siblings, and I am now interested meeting them in their respective stories.

There are some explicit sexual scenes in this book that may offend some readers.

MY REVIEW

This book was calling me with the cover, synopsis, and reviews that I had seen and I made quite a good decision to read it, which I did in two sittings. Even though this was 2nd in the series, it read easily as a stand-alone.

The novel had layer upon layer of suspense with a cast of unsavory characters that I had difficulty in trying to figure out the “whodunit” and even then, was quite shocked with the climatic ending. Didn’t see that one coming!!!

The story flowed at a frantic pace. An exciting and thrilling read!! This author is now on my “authors to read list” and will be reading his previous books while patiently waiting for his future novels.

I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a thrilling and tense read!!

Rath drove the Scout as fast as he could without crashing into the cedars along the desolate stretch of road known as Moose Alley that wound through thirty miles of remote bog and boreal forest. The rain was not as violent here, the fog just starting to crawl out of the ditch.

Rath hoped the police were at Rachel’s and had prevented whatever cruelty Preacher had in store; but hope was as useful as an unloaded gun.

The Scout’s temperature gauge climbed perilously into the red. If the engine overheated, Rath would be stuck out here, miles from nowhere, cut off from contact. In this remote country, cell service was like the eastern mountain lion: its existence rumored, but never proven.

Finally, Rath reached the bridge that spanned the Lamoille River into the town of Johnson. His relief to be near Rachel crushed by fear of what he might find.

At the red light where Route 15 met Main Street, he waited, stuck behind a school bus full of kids likely coming from a sporting event.

My Thoughts and Opinion:

I was introduced to this writer when I read the prequel, BLU HEAT, where the reader meets Blu Carraway P.I. I also read BIG CITY HEAT, a Brack Pelton, P.I., series.

Blu Carraway is running out of money to pay his bills so the timing couldn’t have been better when a very wealthy socialite drives up wanting to hire him to find her son. She has been estranged from him but monitors his activity by his withdrawals of his trust fund but there has been no activity in 2 weeks.

How hard can this case be trying to locate a young man with purple hair and many piercings? Blu realizes a lot harder when bodies start to pile up, he is being set up and a hit is now out on him!

David Burnsworth, as in the previous books I have read by him, constructs a story that grabs the reader from the first page and doesn’t let go until the final word! The energy and turmoil in the story is perceptible. I found myself having to read “just one more chapter” because I wanted to know how this was going to end. And the ending didn’t disappoint.

Another tense read by Mr. Burnsworth! Can’t wait for what’s next!!!

My Thoughts and Opinion:

The team at Forensic Instincts are back and currently working 2 cases. One a stalking case of a Grad student, Brianna, and the other an eerily doppelgänger chance meeting of 2 strangers, Gia and Dani, that turns sinister when their lives are endangered. But why?

They realize, after becoming friends, that they have a lot in common aside from looking so much like the other, one being that they are both adopted. They decide to take a DNA test to see if their resemblance to each other could be familial. They soon find out not only are they related but they are identical twins.

The story begins twenty-seven years ago with a mob hit. Does this have something to do with the twins? And why does the Forensic Instincts team think that their 2 cases are tied together in some way?

The story was fluid with believable characters. A captivating and engrossing read!

There were so many twists and turns in this incredibly suspenseful story. I thought for sure I had it all figured out, once, twice, and even three times when the author delivers a one-two punch that I didn’t see coming. An electrifying and startling ending!!!

A warning, you will be saying to yourself “just one more chapter”, but once you start it, you will want to finish it in one sitting because it is just SO good! A definite unputdownable read!!!!

Having a stroke isn’t bad. I didn’t even know it was happening. It’s afterward that all the fun starts. When you can’t move or talk—even blink your eyes. That’s a scary feeling.

This book is a record of my journey—how the strokes happened—and more importantly, the long road to recovery.

My Thoughts and Opinion:

Caveat: I have been a fan of this author ever since reading MURDER TAKES TIME. Since then I have read several other books including A BULLET FOR CARLOS, MURDER HAS CONSEQUENCES, OLD WOUNDS and WHISKERS & BEAR. IMO, not only is he a great storyteller but a fantastic human being. Since reading his MURDER TAKES TIME, a friendship formed and continues to this day.

After returning from my lengthy medical LOA, I emailed Giacomo to see how he and his family were. I was devastated to hear what he had been through, having multiple heart attacks and massive strokes. However, an FYI, this does not compromise or have any bearing on my review of this book.

SURVIVING A STROKE – OR TWO is an inspirational story of courage, perseverance, motivation, determination, and love. I will admit, I did shed some tears, but on the other hand, I couldn’t help but cheer him on.

This book details his journey, to this day, of having to learn to speak, use his arms, walk, eat, drink, and as he says, one of the things he wanted so badly, was to be able to get on the floor to play with his grandchildren again. Even though he still has more hurdles to overcome in the future, I don’t doubt that he will be back to 100% sooner than later.

It is a poignant, emotional and dynamic read! Captivating!

I highly recommend this book. It is riveting!

Review:

Griff Cole and Britt Callahan are hired by the sister of a murder victim, who in the past was abused by the husband and she wants justice. In domestic abuse cases, the suspicion usually leads to the spouse. But bodies are turning up with very similar M.O.s. Can this be a coincidence or is there a serial killer on the loose?

There is one person, besides the killer, who knows the truth. Fr. Francis, a priest at The Church of The Holy Child. The killer visits the priest, to boast of the killings, during confessionals since a priest can’t betray because of the sacramental seal vow.

And now, not only are women being murdered, but their children are in harm’s way. Including Griff’s ex-wife and daughter.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and was instantly drawn into the story and suspense. I thought I had it all figured out not once, not twice but three times, which means there were so many twists and turns that kept me guessing. Gripping!

I read that this is the first book in what will be a series, and am very much looking forward to the sequel.
