Saturday Memes

SATURDAY
Today I will be participating in a new Saturday meme that I found, similar to the one that I participated in on Sundays, however, starting tomorrow, I will be hosting a weekly event that I am really excited about.  I hope you stop by.  And if you would like to be part of it, please contact me!!

Hosted by Danielle at There’s A Book

From her blog:
We all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.

This week’s question:  What is your favorite TV show?
I have said many times that I am not a TV person per se.  I do, however, have the TV on from the time I get up until going to bed tuned in to a cable news station.  Yes…I admit….I am a cable news junkie.  I have been ever since 9/11.  I don’t actually watch it but have the volume low and will watch only if there is breaking news.
Recently, I put in a restless night, so I got up, put the TV on and was flipping through the channels and came across a show and have been watching it every week since.
I was amazed and in awe that people actually live like this but then on the other hand, was glad to see that this type of mental illness was being brought to the forefront so that those who suffer from this disease or for those that know someone that does have this, that there is help for them.
And now for the new meme:

From Yvonne’s site:
I’ve wanted to start a meme like this for a long time. It’s “Anything Goes on Saturday”. It’s a chance to choose any topic you want and talk about it on Saturday – it can be about a book, TV show, movie, a recipe or just an update on your week. Whatever you choose.

If you’d like to join in, take the button above and blog about it. Use the linky below to post your direct link to your post. Then, go and visit other blogs and see what’s on everyone’s minds this week. Enjoy!
Today’s Topic:  GR, LT, SHELFARI?
I am guessing that most of us catalogue our books on GR, LT, and/or Shelfari. And I am also guessing that we also post our reviews on all these sites too. Around December, I stopped posting to Shelfari, as it seemed that it was just more work, took more time, more duplication and I didn’t see it mentioned as much as the other 2.

So today’s questions are: Which sites do you use? Do you think it is necessary to use all 3? Do you just use the sites to catalogue your books or do you also post your reviews there?

From An Island Life:
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, visit An Island Life answer the question and then post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My Question:
We have over a foot of snow outside and I am thinking of summer and BBqs so my question is: how do you like your hamburgers cooked and with what condiments.
My Answer:
Well done with cheese, mustard, ketchup and sweet pepper relish.

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and find new book-related blogs that we may be missing out on! This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs that they may not know existed! So, grab the logo, post about the Hop on your blog, and start HOPPING through the list of blogs that are posted in the Linky list below!!
The Hop lasts Friday-Monday every week, so if you don’t have time to Hop today, come back later and join the fun! This is a weekly event! And stop back throughout the weekend to see all the new blogs that are added! We get over 200 links every week!!
Your blog should have content related to books, including, but not limited to book reviews.
If you start following someone through the Hop, leave a comment on their blog to let them know! Stop back during the week to see other blogs that are added! And, most importantly, the idea is to HAVE FUN!!

This week’s question comes from Barb who blogs at Sugarbeat’s Books:

“Why do you read the genre that you do? What draws you to it?”

My answer:
I mainly read Mystery/Suspense or Contemporary Chick Lit.  I think I enjoy the thrill and fast pace of a thriller, trying to figure out “who did it” even thogh if it is a good mystery, I never do.  And I enjoy the Chick Lit especially if the characters come to life as if I knew them personally, and I become part of their story, a story that I don’t want to end because I want to continue to follow the characters’ lives.

THURSDAY

We made it through the blizzard!!!  We did, however, lose power a few times and we got over a foot of snow.  OK….I’m done with the winter…please bring on spring!!!!

Today’s question:
Suggested by Joy:

Do you remember the first book you bought for yourself? Or the first book you checked out of the library? What was it and why did you choose it?
My answer:
Great question Joy!  I wish I could remember but can’t.  The only thing I do remember is in elementary school, getting a Scholastic pamphlet and my parents allowing me to purchase books from that.  I remember getting excited seeing the pamphlets one the teacher’s desk and couldn’t wait to see what books were being offered and then waiting for the books to be delivered.

From Lori’s site:
It struck me recently how much time I spend on this computer every day, blogging, chatting or playing games on Facebook, emailing friends and relatives, making cards and calendars, etc. etc. etc.
We depend on each other for book reviews, giveaways, encouragement, friendship, but how well do we really know each other?
So that is what this meme is all about, getting to know each other.
Lori states:
A little heavier this week.
First let me say I try to keep my political opinions away from this book blog, but the events this past weekend impacted all U.S. Citizens, no matter what party you agree with or even if you don’t vote at all.
If this questions are too heavy for you, please don’t run away. This tragedy has been heavy on my mind all week. If you don’t want to answer the questions below just use the space this week to tell us all something about you we don’t know.

1. Where were you/how did you hear about the tragedy in Tucson?
As I have stated many times before, I have my TV on from the time I get up, tuned to a cable news station from the time I get up.  I was in my office/library blogging and heard about it as soon as it hit the national news.  The TV is behind me, so I did stop blogging to watch and pay attention to what was being said.

2. Do you think it is the politicians and the news media that stir the pot to make these events more likely to happen?
My personal opinion, and this is my opinion only, is that we live in a country with freedom of speech so no, I don’t think anyone or any thing can be said to create this kind of behavior.  However, I do believe that the news does at times, sensationalize this type of story.

3. Do you think we will see any changes in the way our representatives in our home states or in Washington interact with their constituents/us?
Good question, my hubby and I had this same discussion while we were watching the coverage.  We think that either our representatives/senators will have the option of secret service and/or to carry a firearm.

A couple of announcements before getting to today’s meme.(this was predrafted Tuesday evening for a “just in case” situation and will be published as a “scheduled post” since this corner of the world is expecting a blizzard around midnight with high winds).
One, is that late yesterday afternoon, as New England was preparing for a Nor’easter, I was feeling warm and fuzzy again, due to a very kind blogger.  Teacher/Learner from  Whatcha Readin’, Books?: A Teacher/Learner’… Blog presented me with this award:

Thank you so much for thinking that my blog is stylish, it means a lot to me.  I am, however, going to take the liberty of passing on the rules, since I just did this 2 days ago and don’t want to bore you all again.  But Thank you Teacher/Learner from the bottom of my heart.  And please, take the time and stop by her blog and say hi!!
And, as I mentioned, New England is preparing for another Nor’easter whereas, EMA, State Officials have already had Press Conferences, announcing closings of businesses, roads, bridges, schools, etc etc with anticipation of 1+ feet of snow and high winds, which could mean power outages across the state.  Thank goodness for books and candles, so I’m all set.  But if it’s quiet from this corner of the blogosphere, you will know why.  I will be curled up, with my warm throw, a hot chocolate, and my current read!!
