Slapdash Sunday Topic: BookCases and a question

SUNDAY
2 Slapdash Topics today:
Before I get to my Slapdash Topic, I would like to throw something out and see what you think.  I joined this meme months ago because I like the premise of it (please read the criteria that was posted from the site) and have enjoyed it ever since, reading about your thoughts, ideas, etc etc as to what the topic is.
However, for the past few months, when I go to link up at the site, there is no link nor meme.  I have tried contacting the blogger to see if she is still hosting this meme but have not had a response.  So, I did another hmmmmmmmm?????   What do you think about the premise of this meme?  Would you be interested in participating in something similar?  But have a McLnky so that you can hop and see what topic other bloggers have.
What are your thoughts on this meme?

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

Yesterday I started loading some, just 3 boxes lol, of my books into my new bookcase.  I knew how I wanted some of the shelves organized, but not sure of the other shelves.  I put my review tbr books in order on the 1st shelf along with my signed copies (which I am proud of).  The next shelf was for the books that I have won since blogging but haven’t read yet, along with my dark ages dictionary…..yes I know…there are dictionaries online but this may be an antique since its from my school days lol and a few personal favorites.  Then I got to the 3rd shelf and  had this moment:

Photobucket
Should I alphabetize by author, title?  Should I double stack my PBs?  Should I mix it all up and just put them any which way?  I know that if someone other than a book blogger is reading this they would probably say “what’s the difference?”  But I know you can understand how important our books are to us, so before I unload and reload, I was wondering…….How do you keep your books organized?  Are they by genre? Title? Author? Do you separate HC from PB?   Do you put them on the shelves by the size of the book or does that matter?  Maybe you don’t organize them at all.
Would love to know about your bookcases!!!!  Maybe even get some tips from each other!!  So let’s have a Slapdash Discussion!!!

Today’s Topic:  AWARDS
Since I received 2 more awards this past week, it got me thinking……

Photobucket

I honestly get that warm and fuzzy feeling with each award.  I still get excited when someone leaves that comment to visit their blog because an award is waiting for me.  I think it is a great honor when a peer presents an award.  Or maybe its just me, because I still am amazed, that people actually read and enjoy my blog.   Or maybe its because this time last year, I didn’t even realize that this world existed. Or maybe its because I am still having so much fun as I did when I joined my first challenge and participated in my first meme (had to google what a meme was because I had no idea).
I know that receiving and then passing on an award takes up a bit of time but in my opinion, it’s worth it.  I respect that some bloggers have a “no award policy” and I do honor that request.  However, I do wonder why that is.
What are your thoughts on receiving awards?  Do you accept awards?  Or do you have a “no award policy” and why?  Would love to hear what you think.  Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion.

Did you hear about this? Was in the news a couple of weeks ago.  PA wants to charge fees for those residents that have a blog!!!

The city of Philadelphia wants bloggers to pay $300 for a business license, even if they haven’t made any money from their work. To put it mildly, this is probably not the best way to attract members of the creative class. It also seems like a good example of what happens when you take laws that were meant to apply to street peddlers and apply them to people who “work in” Philadelphia in only the least important sense of the phrase. Philly’s excellent City Paper reports: See complete article here.

I believe the majority of the book blogging community make $0.00 from their blogs. It is done mainly as a hobby and to connect with others that love to read. Personally, I would be torn. Would you continue blogging if a fee were to become mandatory? Would you be willing to pay? If so, how much?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this subject!!! Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion

Slapdash Sunday Topic: Nostalgia (2 of 3)

That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!
Today’s Topic:  Nostalgia
I hope you don’t mind that this week is not a book/blog topic but will explain why this came to mind and wanted to share with you!!
The past few weeks, I have mentioned that hubby and I will soon be empty nesters.  Our youngest (24 yrs old) moved out of state (5 hr drive away) this past November.  This week, our oldest (26 yrs old) will be closing on a house he bought, which is also out of state (90min drive) and will be moving out within the next few weeks.  We are so very proud of both of them especially seeing the “men” they have become.
Friday night, I started reading The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender.  The first chapter began with 9 year old Rose arriving home from school finding her mom starting to bake a lemon cake for Rose’s birthday.
And it got me thinking to when my boys were that age and their birthdays.  To this day, their friends from when they were in elementary school, will tell me how they couldn’t wait for the boys to open their lunch boxes.  Their friends, knowing of this tradition would wait to start on their own lunches until the boys opened their lunch box to see if I had done it again!!!!
On their birthdays, from kindergarten to high school…yes high school, I would pack their lunches in a certain way.  You would think, when you hear what I did, that they would be embarrassed, especially in high school but they have told me since it wouldn’t have been their bday if I hadn’t done it.  They have also told me that they will be passing on this tradition when they have children.
I would make their sandwich, wrap it in wax paper, and then placed in a baggie.  But it didn’t end there.  I would then wrap that sandwich package in birthday paper and attach a bow.  The same with their snack, which was always a cupcake, wrapped in birthday paper with a bow and same with their drink, which was always a soda, the only day they were allowed a soda for their lunchbox drink, wrapped in birthday gift wrap and another bow.
So today’s topic/question is this.  Did you have a special tradition with your kids?  Or maybe even a tradition that your mom started and has been a pleasant memory for you.  Would love to hear your nostalgic story!!!  So today is not a slapdash discussion but a slapdash memory and/or story !!!
