Slapdash Sunday Topic: One Book vs. Multiple Books

SUNDAY

Hosted by Kayla at The Eclectic Element

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!
(And since I am always asking questions, I truly believe this is another form of learning, this meme is perfect for me)
This past Thursday, there was a question for the meme Booking Through Thursday.  Kathy from Bermudaonion and I discussed it a little.  So I then started thinking……..

Photobucket

That this would be a good Slapdash Sunday Topic!!!
The question was:  Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?

As far back as I can remember, and believe me that is a long way back, I have never read more than 1 book at a time.  I am amazed at the number of bloggers that read multiple books at a time.  I don’t quite understand this concept.  For me, when I read, it is for pure pleasure, entertainment and enjoyment.  I want to give all my attention to my current read.  If I were to read more than one book, I would think that I would mix up the characters, plot, where I last left off, etc etc.

So my questions for today are:  Do you read one book at a time?  Or are you a multiple book reader?  If you are reading more than one book, what makes you pick up one over the other?  Do you get the plots confused?  Do you have to reread the last chapter read to refresh your memory?  Do you find it enjoyable reading more than one book?  Do you find that you get the same enjoyment out of reading multiple books as compared to reading one at a time?  What is the greatest number of books that you have read at one time?

Since I have never read more than one book at a time, maybe I am missing out, so would love to hear your thoughts on this topic!!  What do you think about this topic?  Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion!!!

August 21st to August 28th
SYNOPSIS BORROWED FROM B&N:

It’s the day after Labor Day, 2008, and the bottom is about the drop out of the economy. Hedge fund owner John Cutter is in the process of an ugly divorce and nearly in financial ruin, except for the assets he is hiding from his wife Mimi in the Cayman Islands. When he concocts a scheme to redeem himself, he enlists Lehman Brothers investment banker Blake Somerset as an accomplice. Blake is ripe for recruitment given that he too is on the verge of being in dire financial straits given Lehman’s decline and imminent bankruptcy. Blake’s socialite wife Grigsby is barely aware of her changing world to begin with, and has no idea of the perilous situation her husband is about to enter into. As autumn unfolds, Grigsby’s fairytale life starts to unwind. Meanwhile, John and Blake’s scheme comes to light when street-smart Renee Parker begins her new position as John’s executive assistant. Convinced something is amiss, she enlists her friend Sasha Silver, CEO of Silver Partners, to help her decipher what is happening. This story of expulsion from a modern-day Garden of Eden captures what happens when economic decline spells ruin for Manhattan’s pampered elite.

From her blog:
We all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.

This Weeks Question:
Do you come from a large or small family and how do you think it influenced your life?

I am really not sure how to answer this one, is it just immediate or does it include extended family, so to cover all basis, I will answer for both.  But my first thought is that I come from a very small family.  This is also a very difficult question for me due to a situation I am presently faced with.
Immediate:  One hubby of 29 yrs and 2 sons (26 and 24).  As of next month, the hubster and I will be empty nesters, with both boys living out of state due to jobs/careers.  🙁
Semi Immediate:  My mom, luckily, is with us and just celebrated her 89th bday.  Her mom. my Nana, lived to be 101.  So there is definitely a long term age gene floating around.  My mom was an only child.  My dad, died when I was 16 and was one of 8 brothers/sisters with only 2 surviving. I have one sister who is 9 1/2 years older than me.  However, the “sisterly/sibling “relationship” is quite different, because my sister has Cerebral Palsy.
It has definitely influenced my life, I knew from an early age that I would be the sole person that would have to take on all  responsibilities one day because there is no one else.  Unfortunately that day came in March of 2009, whereas I was battling my own physical problems, but was left with no choice and it continues to this day.
Now you know “a little bit” more about me.  What about you…small or large family?  Has it influenced your life?

From An Island Life:
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, visit An Island Life answer the question and then post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My Question:
Are you a sports fan?  What team(s)?
My Answer:
No.  Matter of fact hubby and sons would rather have be out
of the room when they are watching sports.  Only time, I am allowed, is for World Series, SuperBowl, because our house is usually the hosting house for the parties.
