Musing Mondays (1 of 2)

MONDAY
Another week that I am not posting for Mailbox Monday.  I think my mailbox is on strike.  Everyday last week, I anxiously waited for the mail, but no books  🙁   So depressing lol!!  Its not like I don’t have enough books to review, BUT, and I am sure you feel the same way, I get so excited when I see that envelope addressed to me, knowing a book is inside, but which one?  But I will be visiting your blog to see what you received!!!

Today’s musing:
If your house was burning down –and you could SAFELY grab a book on your way outside to safety– what book would you make sure you ‘rescued’? Why?

My Response:
I would get a big green plastic bag, grab all my signed editions, then if I had time, would grab the books in my review pile, and then any more books from my tbr shelf until the bag was full.

Its Monday, What are you reading? (2 of 2)

This is a meme to list the books completed last week, the books currently being read, and the books to be finished this week.
I definitely did not have a productive week with my reading.  I’m not in a reading slump, I think that real life just took a front seat last week.  Note to self…Life is too short,  sit down, get comfy and enjoy reading!!!

Meet Me On Monday

I just found this new Monday meme via Vicki from Reading At The Beach.  It looks like fun so am going to participate.  Link is provided if you want to join too.  I so enjoy getting to know all the bloggers I follow a little better and thought this was another great way.  I would have liked to add images to the questions, but since I just found it, will plan to do it next week.  Here is what this meme is about:

Hosted by Java from Never Growing Old

“Meet Me On Monday!”
Blogging is a funny thing…we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, “who is this person!?” I know them…but yet I don’t know them! I want to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great way for all of us to “meet” each other!
Every Sunday I will post five get to know you questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!
Questions:

1. What is your favorite kind of doughnut?
Glazed or Honey Dipped and Jelly
2. How often do you pray?
          Many times during the day
3. What is your favorite kind of music?
          R&B
4. What do you order when you eat Chinese food?
          Pork LoMein and Crab Ragoons
5. Would you rather snowboard in the winter or swim in the summer?
          Definitely swim in summer

Slapdash Sunday Topic: One Book vs. Multiple Books

SUNDAY

Photobucket
Hosted by Kayla at The Eclectic Element

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week ‘leftovers.’ Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn’t worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!
(And since I am always asking questions, I truly believe this is another form of learning, this meme is perfect for me)
This past Thursday, there was a question for the meme Booking Through Thursday.  Kathy from Bermudaonion and I discussed it a little.  So I then started thinking……..

Photobucket

That this would be a good Slapdash Sunday Topic!!!
The question was:  Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?

As far back as I can remember, and believe me that is a long way back, I have never read more than 1 book at a time.  I am amazed at the number of bloggers that read multiple books at a time.  I don’t quite understand this concept.  For me, when I read, it is for pure pleasure, entertainment and enjoyment.  I want to give all my attention to my current read.  If I were to read more than one book, I would think that I would mix up the characters, plot, where I last left off, etc etc.

So my questions for today are:  Do you read one book at a time?  Or are you a multiple book reader?  If you are reading more than one book, what makes you pick up one over the other?  Do you get the plots confused?  Do you have to reread the last chapter read to refresh your memory?  Do you find it enjoyable reading more than one book?  Do you find that you get the same enjoyment out of reading multiple books as compared to reading one at a time?  What is the greatest number of books that you have read at one time?

Since I have never read more than one book at a time, maybe I am missing out, so would love to hear your thoughts on this topic!!  What do you think about this topic?  Let’s have a Slapdash Discussion!!!

by Alexandra Lebenthal
August 21st to August 28th
SYNOPSIS BORROWED FROM B&N:

It’s the day after Labor Day, 2008, and the bottom is about the drop out of the economy. Hedge fund owner John Cutter is in the process of an ugly divorce and nearly in financial ruin, except for the assets he is hiding from his wife Mimi in the Cayman Islands. When he concocts a scheme to redeem himself, he enlists Lehman Brothers investment banker Blake Somerset as an accomplice. Blake is ripe for recruitment given that he too is on the verge of being in dire financial straits given Lehman’s decline and imminent bankruptcy. Blake’s socialite wife Grigsby is barely aware of her changing world to begin with, and has no idea of the perilous situation her husband is about to enter into. As autumn unfolds, Grigsby’s fairytale life starts to unwind. Meanwhile, John and Blake’s scheme comes to light when street-smart Renee Parker begins her new position as John’s executive assistant. Convinced something is amiss, she enlists her friend Sasha Silver, CEO of Silver Partners, to help her decipher what is happening. This story of expulsion from a modern-day Garden of Eden captures what happens when economic decline spells ruin for Manhattan’s pampered elite.
