Monday Memes

Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading

Today’s question:
Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.

My thoughts:

Today, I will discuss reading habits.

As you see above, today starts another Read-A-Thon.  I signed up for another one earlier this month, and didn’t even start.  Today, I am hoping this will jump start my reading slump.  For the past few months, the majority of my time has been in front of the computer keeping up with the many VT bookings at PICT and PBP.  And by the time, I try to relax and read, my eyes are so tired that I doze off, which could also be age lol.  But today, I am hopeful, because the settings will be right.

I love to read, and always have, during any type of storms.  And today in New England, a snow storm is predicted.  I have mentioned that I have my reading room/office set up whereas my reading chair sits in a corner facing a window on the opposite side of the room where I can look up and see the elements.  During a snow storm, I will be covered in a fleece throw with a hot cup of coffee and my book.  So am hoping that because the setting will be conducive to reading and the incentive of the Read-A-Thon, that my slump will end.

When in a reading slump, what do you do to end it?

Hi All:  I haven’t been participating in memes lately for a couple of reasons.  PICT and PBP tour companies have been keeping me very busy with all of our tours.  I invite you to stop by and see what great titles have been booked.  If interested in any of the titles and think you would like to participate, there is a form on either site to fill out.

And then, over this past weekend, had some major computer issues, which resulted in something I wasn’t anticipating, to purchase a new laptop since the old one crashed.  I have been trying to transfer all of my files and sites to the new one to bring it up to speed.  Not a fun task!!  But getting there.

What’s new with you?

This week’s question:

It’s the depth of winter here where I live right now … what books do you like to read when it’s snowy and white? What books do you read to evoke a real feeling of winter (good or bad)?

My thoughts:
I have never been a seasonal reader when it comes to titles but am when it comes to reading habits.  I also live in an area where it’s the depth of winter and, especially during a snow storm, love to get comfy in my reading chair with a fleece throw, a hot cup of coffee or chocolate and read.    My reading room/office is set up so that when I am in my recliner,  I can also glance up to look out the window to see the snow falling and blowing around.  Matter of fact, this scenario played out yesterday.  I have been in a reading slump and thought that this setting would help, which it would have, if I hadn’t dozed off lol.  Unfortunately, the depth of winter flu bug, has come to visit at the Mash household.  🙁

Today’s question:
Any reading resolutions for the new year? Reading more? (Reading less?) Reading better books? Bigger books? More series? More relaxing books?
And hey, feel free to talk about any other resolutions you might have, too … or why you choose NOT to have any.

My response:
Resolutions…wondering does anyone really keep their’s throughout the year.  I know I never have so I don’t really make any.  Hower, I do have “hopes” for the New Year.  Some include reading and other’s personal.

When it comes to reading, I hope to make time for more reading.  This past year due to health issues and being very busy with the VT companies, which is a great thing, I just couldn’t find the time to read.  And if I did, I found myself dozing off, which could be age lol.

On a personal level, 2013 is going to be an exciting year for the “Mash” family with our youngest son getting married on Nov. 16th.  And with that comes mother of the groom dress shopping, planning a shower, rehearsal dinner and all the other things that the groom’s parents need to do.  However, I refuse to shop for a dress before I take off the weight I put on since my surgery.  So diet is my #1 goal.

What about you?  Any resolutions either for reading and/or personal?  Would love to hear!!

Happy New Year!!! Teaser Tuesday

Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
*Grab your current read
*Open to a random page
*Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
*BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

From Miz B:
Here it is… the new version of Musing Mondays! Each week, you’ll see the same set of questions… and you’ll pick which one you want to answer that week. I know this is slightly less exciting than what Musing Mondays has been to this point, but I am burning out on doing daily memes, and need to simplify things a bit. So, I am making MM a little more self-sustaining (where I don’t have to really think about it too much), and will keep my other weekly memes the same, for now. I hope you’ll still play along!

This week’s muse:
Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.

My thoughts:
Today I will describe just one of my reading habits.  I have different reading habits depending on the season.  I am not a fan of winter.  I dislike every aspect, but one,  and tend to slightly hibernate during this time.   Since I was a child, and still to this day, love to read when it is snowing.  I will get comfy, curled up in my reading recliner with a fleece throw, and a  cup of hot coffee or hot choloate.  Since the recliner faces the windows, I will look up every now and then to watch the snow.  For me, it is such a tranquil and warm feeling.

What about you?  Do you have different reading habits depending on the seasons?  What is your’s for the winter?
