Today’s question:
Do you read magazines? If so, which ones? If not, why not?

My response:
If I happen to be sitting in a doctor’s waiting room and a cover catches my eye about an article, I may pick it up.  Sometimes my husband gets points from frequent flyer miles, where he can choose a magazine for a free year’s subscription.  Depending on what he decides on, I may pick it up.  But overall I would say I’m not a reader of magazines.  I would rather put the time into reading a book.

Friday Memes

Hosted by An Island Life

From An Island Life:
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, visit An Island Life answer the question and then post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

This past weekend, I announced that my youngest son got engaged. They live out of state (5hours away) and they are driving in tonight leaving on Sunday. Since family and friends want to see them, my DH and I are having a pool party on Saturday so that people can stop by, whenever they can, to see them.

So my question is:

When you are having a large gathering, how many days in advance do you start preparing for it?

Booking Through Thursday

Hi everyone!!

I had previously signed up for, and stated earlier this week, that I would be participating in the High Summer Read-A-Thon, hosted by Michelle from  Seasons Of Reading  and  The True Book Addict.  However, the reason why there is no progress sticky post is, and I am embarrassed to say, that I haven’t even opened a book this week.  Real Life has interfered but this is something that I am truly excited about.  On Sunday, I announced that my son, Mark, proposed to his gf, Jess.   Well….they will be home tomorrow, they live out of state..5 hours away, and leaving on Sunday.  Since all their friends want to see them, including Steve and I, because he hasn’t been home since Xmas, we thought that we would have a pool party Saturday so that everyone can come here.  I have been extremely busy preparing for that plus have been busy with Partners In Crime Tours.  Hopefully I will get back on track with my reading starting next week.

Today’s question:
A while ago, I interviewed my readers for a change, and my final question was, “What question have I NOT asked at BTT that you’d love me to ask?” I got some great responses and will be picking out some of the questions from time to time to ask the rest of you. Like now.
Vampira2468 asks:
Series or Stand-alone?

My answer:
Both!  However, with a series, I like it if it can also be read as a stand-alone.  My opinion, that if that can be accomplished, that is some great writing.

What about you?  Series or Stand-alone?

Monday Memes and High Summer Read-A-Thon

Today is the start of High Summer Read-A-Thon, hosted by Michelle of The True Book Addict, and will run through July 22nd.  It is not too late to sign up!!  Starting tomorrow I will have a “sticky note” progress report as to how I am doing.  If you would like to join in, click the link below.  Not too sure how much reading I will be getting in because this week I am very busy with Partners In Crime Tours and will also be preparing for an upcoming pool party on Saturday since the engaged couple, my son, Mark and Jess, will be coming home!!!!!

Today’s question:
What are you currently reading? Is it any good? Would you recommend it?

My answer:
I just recently finished reading Sweat by Mark Gilleo, a phenomenal read.  And had planned to start reading Twelve Months by Steven Manchester, from The Story Plant as part of their “Spread The Word Initiative”.  He is being compared to Michael Baron, which I am a huge fan of.  So hopefully today, for the Read-A-Thon and when I get caught up with Partners In Crime Tours, I will be able to start it.

Sunday Salon-Exciting news

Facebook link

Hello Sunday Saloners!  And how was your week?   The Mash family had a very exciting week!!

Real Life:  Friday the 13th turned out to be a very lucky day for my family.  If you follow my blog, you know that I have talked about my 2 fantastic and wonderful sons, who both live out of state because of their jobs.  Well, my husband and I can now officially say we have a daughter!!  My youngest son, Mark, proposed to his gf and she said YES!!!!!!  We have loved Jess from the minute we met her.  And over the past couple of years we have fallen in love with her more and more because she makes my son so happy.  They truly are the perfect couple.  Jess, I am publicly welcoming you into our family.  Thank you for loving Mark as you do.  And, I know, Mark has your heart.  I can see it in his eyes, hear it in his voice, see it in his smile.  Mark, thank you for giving us the daughter I always wanted!!

Congratulations Mark and Jess!!!!!

Don’t think the rest of my week can even come close.  My husband and I are elated!!

This week’s question:
A while ago, I interviewed my readers for a change, and my final question was, “What question have I NOT asked at BTT that you’d love me to ask?” I got some great responses and will be picking out some of the questions from time to time to ask the rest of you. Like now.
SammyDee asks:
What book(s) have you read that you’re secretly ashamed to admit

My response:
The books that came instantly to mind aren’t necessarily that I’m ashamed to admit to, but more so embarrassed.  And there are 4 read, 1 waiting to be read.

I have openly admitted that I am computer challenged, which that is something that I’m ashamed of, just ask Gina from Hott Books.  I don’t know what I would do without her as she is my computer angel.  She puts up with me, and with much patience I might add, for all the questions I ask how to do certain things.  She was partially the force behind  the new look and the reason why and how I moved over to wordpress., which she did both.  Because I am always bothering her, I bought WordPress For Dummies as a reference guide and even then, I have trouble and end up going to her for help.  The other is a book she just sent me , Getting Geeky With Twitter, since I am still trying to navigate that site but haven’t had the time to open it up and read.

The other books that came to mind are 3 that I read and reviewed from a request last year.  As I said, I’m not ashamed but a bit embarrassed because of the reasons I accepted the review request.  They were children’s books.  I don’t read children’s books since it has been many years that I have had to read to my sons, seeing that they are 26 and 28, and my hinting for grandchildren has fallen on deaf ears.  So there aren’t any little ones around to share these books with.  However, if I read and reviewed them, I would also have the opportunity to host a giveaway, and seeing it was right around Christmas, I thought it would be a fun giveaway for those that follow my blog and did have little tykes in their lives.  And the final one was The Bedtime Book For Dogs, an adorable book for children that instead of being read to, they could read to their dogs.  That book I gave to my son and future dil, partially as a joke, because she would say all the time, even with my husband and I, that it was time for “bonding and quality time”.  And would say the same thing about their dog.  So I thought this would be the perfect book so that she could have her “bonding and quality time” with the dog.  Knowing the personality of this dog, the book has probably been digested, literally lol.

OK, your turn.  What books are you ashamed to say that you read?

Teaser Tuesday

Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
*Grab your current read
*Open to a random page
*Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
*BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Jake looked away from the window and his eyes fell on the tray of his fax machine.  Another random junk fax.  Someone had his number.  He took one step on the plush beige carpet, reached down, and picked up the piece of paper that would forever change his life.  Pandora’s Box on an eight-by-eleven inch sheet of paper.

Today’s muse”
Have you ever read a book that, at the time, you didn’t feel a strong connection towards, but as time goes by you find yourself thinking about it a lot?

My answer:
I would have to say no.  If I read a book that doesn’t leave an impact on me, I tend not to remember anything about it, even as soon as I read concurrent books nor do I think about it.  On the other hand, a book that is compelling and/or one I thoroughly enjoyed will stay with me for a very long time.  I, have in the past, been in situations or something will happen and I can’t remember if it was a memory of RL or something that I read from a book.

What about you?  Do you find yourself thinking about books that were just ok?
