This week’s question:
Even I read things other than books from time to time … like, Magazines! What magazines/journals do you read?

My answer:
lol  I have to laugh at this question.  I have mentioned on more than one occasion how the hubster does not read.  He is still on page iii of the Prologue of a book he bought 3 years ago.  But last year, he had some points from something he belongs to, and had to use or lose so he put it towards 2 magazines, which, you guessed it, he just about reads the cover.  So I get to read Time and People weekly.

It struck me recently how much time I spend on this computer every day, blogging, chatting or playing games on Facebook, emailing friends and relatives, making cards and calendars, etc. etc. etc.
We depend on each other for book reviews, giveaways, encouragement, friendship, but how well do we really know each other?

So that is what this meme is all about, getting to know each other.
WEEK 21 QUESTIONS
1. What is the outside temperature where you are today?
28…..50 degrees colder than I want it to be!!!!

We made it through the blizzard!!!  We did, however, lose power a few times and we got over a foot of snow.  OK….I’m done with the winter…please bring on spring!!!!

Today’s question:
Suggested by Joy:

Do you remember the first book you bought for yourself? Or the first book you checked out of the library? What was it and why did you choose it?
My answer:
Great question Joy!  I wish I could remember but can’t.  The only thing I do remember is in elementary school, getting a Scholastic pamphlet and my parents allowing me to purchase books from that.  I remember getting excited seeing the pamphlets one the teacher’s desk and couldn’t wait to see what books were being offered and then waiting for the books to be delivered.

Lori states:
A little heavier this week.
First let me say I try to keep my political opinions away from this book blog, but the events this past weekend impacted all U.S. Citizens, no matter what party you agree with or even if you don’t vote at all.
If this questions are too heavy for you, please don’t run away. This tragedy has been heavy on my mind all week. If you don’t want to answer the questions below just use the space this week to tell us all something about you we don’t know.

1. Where were you/how did you hear about the tragedy in Tucson?
As I have stated many times before, I have my TV on from the time I get up, tuned to a cable news station from the time I get up.  I was in my office/library blogging and heard about it as soon as it hit the national news.  The TV is behind me, so I did stop blogging to watch and pay attention to what was being said.

2. Do you think it is the politicians and the news media that stir the pot to make these events more likely to happen?
My personal opinion, and this is my opinion only, is that we live in a country with freedom of speech so no, I don’t think anyone or any thing can be said to create this kind of behavior.  However, I do believe that the news does at times, sensationalize this type of story.

3. Do you think we will see any changes in the way our representatives in our home states or in Washington interact with their constituents/us?
Good question, my hubby and I had this same discussion while we were watching the coverage.  We think that either our representatives/senators will have the option of secret service and/or to carry a firearm.

Any New Year’s reading resolutions?
I did make reading resolutions for 2011, and yes, I have already broken one of them.  In 2010, I accepted so many requests from the time my blog went public in December, that I never picked up a book from my personal tbr list.  I, really thought that requests would be far and few between, and was I wrong!  I wrote my “Review Policy” (due to the far and few between thinking) stating that I would read the requested reviews in order of receiving them, which almost made me into a robot reader.  This year I have amended my “Review Policy” as to guaranteeing 3-4 ARCs per month and then continue with my request pile until completed.  I think that is why I went into such a huge slump in September.
I also planned not to accept so many books  LMAO….ok…so that one went out the window.  With so many good books out there, how can 1 say NO.  Plus how can you say no to an author who has taken the time to contact you, which I take as an honor, is trying so hard to get their book recognized after putting their heart and soul into writing it and now trying to market it.  This just might be the next #1 Best Seller.  And if the synopsis sounds good, I want to give that author a chance!!!

What about you?  Any resolutions?

WEEK 19 QUESTIONS
After Lori suffered from the flu for a few days,
her questions are all about food!
Hope you are feeling better and back to normal!!
1. How would you build the perfect sandwich?
It would start with Kraft mayo on both sides, lettuce and tomato.  And for the main course either egg salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, roast beef or ham.  And has to have a couple of pickles on the side.
2. What is your favorite flavor of potato chips?
3. Now add the perfect beverage to complete this lunch.

What’s the best book you read this year?
If you followed my blog over this past year, you learned that James Patterson was my all time #1 author, however, in May of 2010 I was introduced to a new author that I felt was equal to Patterson.  Since May I have read 2 more books by this writer and presently reading his 4th and can honestly say that he has taken the #1 spot.  That author is Vincent Zandri.  And the book that hooked me was:
Worst?
Other than the ones that ended up in the DNF pile, there were a few that I could put in this category but I know that these 2 had different thoughts around the blogosphere but were not enjoyable to me:

Favorite?
Some of my 5/5
Jackson, Lisa Most Likely To Die
Sheehan, Jacqueline Now & Then
Walker, Bill A Note from an old Acquaintance
Rose, Karen Silent Scream
Keener, Rachel The Memory Thief
Dixon, Dianne The Language of Secrets
Baron, Michael The Journey Home
Thayer, Nancy Beachcombers
Sheldon, Sydney After The Darkness
Stevens, Chevy Still Missing
Samuels-Young, Pamela Buying Time
Gardner, Lisa Live To Tell
Patterson, James Private
and
Like I mentioned above, I am currently reading the newest book by Vincent Zandri, The Innocent, which I will be posting my review for on January 1st.  What better way to start off the New Year but to review a book from my new #1 favorite author?  Oh I know,…………………to have him stop by and visit with us all.  So mark your calendars…Vincent Zandri will be here January 1st to let us know what we can look forward to in 2011.
