Guest Author Joel Andre

The name and face should be familiar.  Joel has stopped by often, which means he is always busy writing and today he is sharing about his latest work, a short story,  as he tours with Partners In Crime Tours.  So please help me welcome back, author and friend of the CMash blog!!

JOEL ANDRE

Joel M. Andre was born January 13, 1981. At a young age he was fascinated with the written word. It was at fourteen that Poe blew his mind, and Andre began to dabble with darker poetry.

Between the years of 1999 and 2007 Joel was featured in various poetry anthologies and publications. In 2008 he released his first collection, Pray the Rain Never Ends.

Knowing there was something deeper and darker inside of his soul, Joel decided to take a stab at commercialism. Releasing the dark tongue in cheek,  A Death at the North Pole, created a dark world among the death of Kris Kringle. Ultimately providing a tale of redemption.

October of 2008 saw Joel release his second book,  Kill 4 Me. A tale in which a woman is haunted by a vengeful spirit through text messages and instant messaging.

Taking some time off and doing a lot of soul searching, Joel took things in a new direction and dabbled in the Fantasy Genre with,  The Pentacle of Light. The tale dealing with five major races battling for control of Earth, and the acceptance of their God.

Finally, after missing his detective Lauren Bruni, he released the book The Return in October 2009, this time moving the action from the North Pole and placing it in the small Arizona community he was raised in.

Andre’s latest book is The Black Chronicles: Cry of the Fallen about a dead man who seeks revenge on the woman that tormented him in peaceful Northern Arizona.

Currently, he resides in Chandler, AZ.

My Thoughts and Opinion: This was my first introduction to Joel Andre’s books and I was quite impressed. It is a very quick read, being only a 15 page story, however within those pages, was an intricate concise plot filled with a macabre topic, overwhelming suspense and even a bit of dry humor. What astonished me was that the author was able to deliver all of the above in those 15 pages. The writing flowed and was gripping. The subject eerie. Recommend for those times when you just want a quick, but exciting read. This story, in my opinion, would be the perfect book to read, when you find yourself in a reading slump. It will definitely rectify the problem.

Today’s question:
So other than books … what periodicals do you read? Magazines? Newspapers? Newsletters? Journals?
Do you subscribe? Or do you buy them on the newsstand when they look interesting?

My response:
I occasionally read periodicals other than books, not as much as I used to.  Years ago, I did subscribe to some magazines like Good Housekeeping and Family Circle.  And the past couple of years my husband subscribed to magazines like Time, News WeekEntertainment Weekly  because he gets points through one of his CC for a 1 year free subscription.  The current subscription being delivered is Sports Illustrated, which the only time I pick up is when it’s time to put it in the recyclable bin, I am definitely not a sports fan.  Since, I am often in a doctor’s waiting room, I will peruse the magazines and if one looks like it has some interesting articles, I will pick it up to read instead of my book, which goes with me everywhere.  Until recently, we would have the newspaper delivered daily, which I did read every day.  However, the paper was getting smaller and smaller but more expensive.  So we are currently trying an online paid subscription, however, it just doesn’t feel the same and I will go days without signing in to read.

What about you?  Do you read magazines, papers, etc.?  Do you subscribe to certain reading material?

GIVEAWAY ENTRY PAGE “THE PIGEON PIE MYSTERY” by Julia Stuart ENDED

JULY 3rd to JULY 17th, 2012

THE PIGEON PIE MYSTERY
by JULIA STUART

SYNOPSIS:
Julia Stuart returns in her follow-up to the bestselling The Tower, the Zoo and the Tortoise with this clever murder mystery set in Victorian England, brimming with her signature charm and fabulous characters.
When Indian Princess Alexandrina is left penniless by the sudden death of her father, the Maharaja of Brindor, Queen Victoria grants her a grace-and-favor home in Hampton Court Palace. Though rumored to be haunted, Alexandrina and her lady’s maid, Pooki, have no choice but to take the Queen up on her offer.
Aside from the ghost sightings, Hampton Court doesn’t seem so bad. The princess is soon befriended by three eccentric widows who invite her to a picnic with all the palace’s inhabitants, for which Pooki bakes a pigeon pie. But when General-Major Bagshot dies after eating said pie, and the coroner finds traces of arsenic in his body, Pooki becomes the #1 suspect in a murder investigation.
Princess Alexandrina isn’t about to let her faithful servant hang. She begins an investigation of her own, and discovers that Hampton Court isn’t such a safe place to live after all.
With her trademark wit and charm, Julia Stuart introduces us to an outstanding cast of lovable oddballs, from the palace maze-keeper to the unconventional Lady Beatrice (who likes to dress up as a toucan—don’t ask), as she guides us through the many delightful twists and turns in this fun and quirky murder mystery. Everyone is hiding a secret of the heart, and even Alexandrina may not realize when she’s caught in a maze of love.
